WWE NXT NEW YEAR'S EVIL GRADE: B.
The matches were good for the most part with the NXT Women's Championship match taking the spot as Match of the Night. That's not a surprise considering the two women competing for the belt. The tag team match was a big clunky in spots but the Fatal Fourway was good. The Rock's appearance didn't really do anything important and should have opened the show if that's all he was going to do. It took a huge moment away from Giulia and Oba Femi.

FULL RESULTS FOR WWE NXT NEW YEAR'S EVIL (JANUARY 7, 2025).
GIULIA defeats Roxanne Perez by pin.
STEPHANIE VAQUER defeats Kelani Jordan, Cora Jade, and Lola Vice by pin.
SHOTZI, GIGI DOLIN, and TATUM PAXLEY defeat Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley, Jazmyn Nyx, and Jacy Jayne) by pin.
LEXIS KING defeats Charlie Dempsey by pin.
OBA FEMI defeats Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe by pin.

To be honest, that was a big waste of time, but it happened due to the Rock's star power. I feel bad for Giulia or Oba Femi, whose big moments were overshadowed by a guy who didn't really say much for 10 minutes.

He keeps laughing at how much time he has left, including about two minutes, before completely swearing a bunch more times. Rock then says last night was fun with RAW on Netflix, but you should WANT to go to NXT.

He finally mentions something relevant by saying that some of the guys and girls in the back could be main-eventing WrestleMania (unless he or Roman Reigns takes the spot again). Dwayne then says the crowd will determine if they make it before saying his catchphrase.

He runs through all of his nicknames and then complains how all he heard was how people said he was mean to Cody Rhodes. Rocky then tells everyone who is confused or upset with his immediate character shift to shut up and enjoy the ride.

He then proceeds to drop an F-bomb (which is bleeped of course).

To be fair to the Rock, he genuinely seems emotional in the ring as the crowd chants for him.

The Rock comes out and shakes hands with some fans. Unlike last night, he doesn't come out with his People's Championship belt although he did arrive with it. Again, weird stuff.

One of those two big title changes, preferably Giulia defeating Roxanne Perez, should have closed the show. Those were two big moments for those stars and they get shafted so the Rock can show up and say the same four things he always says.

Femi and Giulia stand in the entrance way as the two new top champions of NXT.

Williams runs at Femi but he moves and runs into Thorpe with the steel chair in hand. Thorpe falls out of the ring and Femi hits the finishing powerbomb for the win.
Result - Oba Femi defeats Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe by pin.

GRADE: B-.
Trick and Oba had some good shots early on but it was a bit of a drag through the middle part. Thorpe literally showed up for about three minutes. The chair shot - although legal in a triple threat - will be an out for Trick to get an immediate rematch.

Trick goes for another move but is met by a loud chop. Trick counters into a DDT when Femi goes for his finisher. Williams hits a big boot but Femi kicks out. The Champ goes for another move but is met with a forearm. He hits a powerbomb but Thorpe pulls the ref out of the ring. Femi pulls him into the ring before punishing him with a big Spinebuster. He tosses him across the ring and hits a few kicks before Trick jumps in with the Trick Shot knee for a very near fall.

Trick goes to the top for something but Oba slaps his chest. Williams hits a Uranage off the top for two. They trade punches in the ring followed by shoulder blocks and forearms. Williams hits a jumping neck breaker and a bodyslam on Femi. He highlights it with a Flapjack and a kippup.

As Oba has Trick trapped in a rest hold, Thorpe is shown backstage with a chair. It's a triple threat, so it's also No DQ . . ..

Trick hits an Attitude Adjustment on Femi and we head right back to commercials after about three minutes of action.

After the announcements, the match starts without Eddy Thorpe. It's a bit strange that Femi outright admitted to attacking Thorpe backstage but wasn't punished, fined, or removed from the match. Thorpe may have lied the first time but another competitor admitted to her face that he was responsible. Another great decision from the GM.

Apparently, the Rock is going to close the show tonight since he didn't close RAW on Netflix. The NXT Title match is next.

Ava gets Stephanie Vaquer and Fallon Henley together to announce their upcoming match. Before she can announce it, Shotzi walks in to claim her shot at the title since she pinned Henley earlier in the night. Shotzi and Vaquer argue, and Fallon says they can work their stuff out first and get back to her. Ava agrees to the match for next week. SmackDown's Shotzi vs. Stephanie is a first-time-ever match.

SmackDown commentator Joe Tessitore is in the crowd.

Dempsey reverses the Coronation but Dempsey reverses it into a Crossfaced Chicken Wing. Dempsey decks King with a right hand. King is sent into the corner but reverses. The two men collide heads. Dempsey goes for a backslide, but King kicks out. Dempsey goes for a leapfrog, but it hits King in the head. King hesitates for a second but hits the Coronation DDT for the win.
Result - Lexis King defeats Charlie Dempsey by pin.

GRADE: B.
It was a good match with good counters, but the whole "he didn't win it cleanly" thing needs to end. Either have him win it clean or not.

King hits a flying crossbody but Dempsey reverses it into an armbar. King lifts him up and slams him into the mat. Another near fall.

Lexis King collapses after a stiff punch.

Dempsey has King trapped but he fights back with some strikes and chops to Dempsey. King hits a Northern Lights Suplex with a bridge for two, but Charlie reverses it into an armbar. King hits a snap powerslam for another close call.

I just want to take a moment to acknowledge SK's Greg Bush who usually helps out for NXT. We miss ya bud and hang in there!!

Things are even early on. Both men anticipate the other's moves. King dropkicks Dempsey off the ring apron and not NQCC. He adds a splash off the top on the three men in the group.

Luckily, this match is one fall to a finish or a regular match. Vic asks if the bigger injustice was King winning the Cup by DQ or Ava taking it from him. Booker thinks Ava made a mistake, which would track for her tenure as GM.

Up next is the Heritage Cup match between Charlie Dempsey and Lexis King. The majority of the entrances and announcements take place during the ads. Why don't they do this instead of having an entrance and then a commercial and 10 minutes before the match starts on RAW/SmackDown?

Backstage, Ethan Page is being admonished by Ava for what he did to Je'Von Evans. He said that's true, but then why has it been aired constantly? The Rock interrupts to save his daughter from handling Page. He said he's heard about Page and what he's done lately. He says he wants to be friendly with Page, and Page agrees.

He shakes Page's hand but says if we're gonna be cool, you gotta be cool with Ava (since she's his daughter). He's also apparently still the Final Boss, just not on RAW or Netflix?

Gigi and Tatum hit double Enzuguiris on Fallon in the ring. They then land stereo Cannonballs/Moonsaults on Jacy and Nyx on the outside. Shotzi lands a Senton off the top on Fallon for the win.
Result - Shotzi, Gigi Dolin, and Tatum Paxley defeat Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley, Jazmyn Nyx, and Jacy Jayne) by pin.

GRADE: B-.
Some good action and spots for each woman. Shotzi still looks a bit rusty and almost missed another Suicide Dive.

Fatal Influence isolates Tatum Paxley. Jacy hits a Senton but basks in her move. Paxley takes advantage with a move before tagging Gigi in. Gigi knocks Nyx and Henley off the apron. Jacy tries to escape but Gigi stops it. Gigi hits a clothesline for a close call. She goes for another move but Nyx runs in to save Jacy. Fallon tags in but gets hit with a neckbreaker when going for a double suplex. Shtozi comes in with a splash and a combo neckbreaker. Fatal Influence breaks up the pin.

Shotzi only gets a little of a suplex on Fallon in the corner. Henley hits a facebuster on Shotzi for two. Gigi breaks up the pin, and all hell breaks loose. She goes for another Suicide Dive (WHY) and gets hit in the face by Fallon. The women all trade moves off the apron. Shotzi hits last with a suplex on Henley on the mat.

Up next is ShotPaxLin taking on Fatal Influence. Fatal Influence rushes the heroines before the bell rings. Paxley starts off with Jacy Jayne, hitting a crossbody to Jayne's gut in the corner. Jazmyn Nyx tags in and whiffs on her only move, a kick. Pax tags Gigi and then Shotzi in. They all land moves on Nyx with Shotzi getting a two count. Good to see Shotzi was okay after that bad miss of a Suicide Dive a few weeks back.

Triple H and Nick Khan are here!! They're shown in the crowd.

OTM calls Nathan Frazer and Axiom some kids for arguing over things and having two matches in one night. They didn't have the same childhood as Lucien Price and Bronco Nima, so I guess they don't have grounds to have feelings? I don't know; I get that OTM means they rose from "the mud," but that doesn't mean you're better suited to be tag team Champs.

With the card announced beforehand, it weird that they've had all women's contests back-to-back-to-back.

Stephanie Vaquer gets the next shot at Fallon Henley!

Backstage, Ava tells RAW's The Unholy Union that they'll face Lash/Jakara next week, with the winner getting a shot at the Women's Tag titles. Sarah Schreiber asks for an update about Eddy Thorpe, but Ava says he's fine since he lied about his attack last time. Oba Femi walks up and admits to attacking Thorpe as payback for getting blasted with the Superstar of the Year award last week. She says the match is still on. Great GM work there.

Vice pushes Jade out of the ring. Vaquer hits Vice with a dropkick. Vaquer then jumps on both women with a splash on the outside. Kelani lands a moonsault on everyone. She hits a splash off the top on Vaquer, but Vaquer reverses it for a near fall. The two trade pin attempts, but Vice rushes in to toss Steph out of the ring. Jordan hits an Angle Slam on Cora before going for a splash. She still goes for the splash when Jade clearly moves out of the way. Vaquer cleans house of Vice and Jade to hit a package backbreaker on Jordan for the win.
Result - Stephanie Vaquer defeats Kelani Jordan, Lola Vice, and Cora Jade by pin.

GRADE: B+.
Great action and flow with all four women. They all had their moments but it was a bit of a shock to see Jordan take the pin since they've protected her so much.

Stephanie is in control off the commercial. She lands a move on each opponent but Jordan grabs her by the hair to stop her momentum. Vaquer hits a Dragon Screw Leg Whip on Jordan. She then hits a Meteora on Cora in the corner. Vice lands a series of kicks on Vaquer and then Jordan when Jordan tries to break her momentum. Vice misses her butt strike.

A graphic confirms The Rock will come out live tonight.

All three women take turns hitting Cora with strikes. They then trade pins until Jade returns to the ring. She drops Vice and stomps on Jordan but Vaquer breaks up the pin. Vice busts up Vaquer's move where she shoves the opponent's head into the mat with her legs. Jordan hits a Pescado on Vice and Cora adds a Cannonball of her own on Jordan.

Cora Jade and Kelani Jordan didn't even get entrances.

We get a recap of Ethan Page's attack on Je'Von Evans. We get a promo from Evans with his jaw "wired shut." He says he can't eat or sleep. If his jaw was really wired shut he wouldn't be talking.
