He’s tied with fellow legends of the sport - Richard Petty & Dale Earnhardt Sr. - for the record of the most number of championships in NASCAR. He debuted full-time in sport in 2002 and drove 19 full-time seasons for the eponymous Hendrick Motorsports organization.

Johnson racked up 83 career wins, making him one of the most accomplished drivers in NASCAR, and etching his name into the annals of motorsports history with his remarkable success. He retired from full-time competition after the 2020 season and now makes select starts in the Cup Series in the No.84 Toyota Camry XSE for Legacy Motor Club, a team he co-owns.

Jimmie Johnson's father is Gary Wayne Johnson. He played a formative role in Jimmie’s racing career, kickstarting it all by putting Jimmie on a motocross bike at the young age of four. Out of high school, Gary worked as a heavy equipment construction operator and later got a job with BF Goodrich, driving a semi to the races and mounting tyres.

BF Goodrich helped Jimmie transition away from motorcycles, by putting him in an off-road car. He was then noticed by Chevrolet at Mickey Thompson races off-road races and put in a Chevrolet truck, and the rest is history.

He has also been present in his son’s various racing endeavors - being a part of Jimmie’s pit crew in NASCAR and acting as a spotter for Jimmie in IndyCar.
