Utilizing player tiers is one of the most important aspects of fantasy football drafting. You need to know when there is a break in talent so you can scoop the last player at his position. It also tells you when you can pivot and grab value elsewhere.
Let’s look at my 2024 fantasy football wide receiver tiers:

- CeeDee Lamb – DAL
- Tyreek Hill – MIA
- Ja’Marr Chase – CIN
This is your elite tier of receivers. These guys should be drafted in the top 5 picks of every fantasy draft. Lamb and Hill should again contend for the league lead in targets. Everyone on this list has double-digit touchdown upside and week-winning capabilities. Their ceilings are the number one receiver in the game.
Chase should return to form with a healthy Joe Burrow. Playing a last-place schedule this year won’t hurt either.
Tier 2 fantasy football WRs
- Puka Nacua – LAR
- Amon-Ra St. Brown – DET
- Garrett Wilson – NYJ
- A.J. Brown – PHI
- Justin Jefferson – MIN
These five receivers aren’t a bad consolation prize for drafters picking in the middle to the late first round. I’m very high on Nacua, who shined as a rookie and exploded in his playoff debut to the tune of 9-181-1 vs Detroit.
St. Brown has the capability to lead the NFL in receiving. He played most of last season with an oblique injury that would’ve sidelined most other players. He played through it and caught 119 passes. The passing game will still run through him in Detroit. He’s someone you are happy to leave round one with.
Garrett Wilson is my favorite receiver this year. Playing with Aaron Rodgers for a full season is going to be a fantasy bonanza. Wilson saw the fourth most WR targets last year and that was from total scrubs playing QB. Now he has a future Hall of Famer airing it out to him. At the end of round one, I’m smashing Wilson, and I expect 1300 yards and 10 scores.
Tier 3 fantasy football WRs
- Marvin Harrison Jr. – ARI
- Chris Olave – NO
- Mike Evans – TB
- DJ Moore – CHI
- DeVonta Smith – PHI
- Davante Adams – LV
My gut plays here are Harrison Jr and Smith. I’ve never been a big Chris Olave fan because I hate his QB situation. Mike Evans never seems to slow down, and D.J. Moore finally has a real quarterback. Back to Harrison Jr., he will be the number one option in the offense, with only TE Trey McBride competing with him for targets. While his end-of-round 1 price tag may scare you off, his production on a team with a poor defense and who plays in a dome will be there come season's end.
DeVonta Smith welcomes new Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore to town and, with it, a more uptempo scheme and much more motion. The Eagles were last in motion usage a year ago. Now, Smith will move around the formation to find favorable matchups. Think of him as the new Keenan Allen.
I’m out on Davante Adams. He’s playing with awful quarterbacks on an offense that wants to play slow and run the ball. Why would you want to draft a player in an offense like that? Simply put, don’t.
Tier 4 fantasy football WRs
- Michael Pittman Jr – IND
- Cooper Kupp – LAR
- Christian Kirk – JAX
- Drake London – ATL
- Nico Collins – HOU
- Brandon Aiyuk – SF
- Jaylen Waddle - MIA
I love this tier of receivers. Every single guy here has a massive upside and plays in exciting offenses. Kirk is someone I’m targeting a ton, as he waves goodbye to Calvin Ridley and will once again man the slot for Jacksonville. Think back to 2022, when he saw 133 targets and scored 9 touchdowns. It’s coming again.
Nico Collins burst onto the scene in Houston after miserable quarterback play early in his career. While I love the talent, I don’t love the second-round ADP and the addition of Stefon Diggs to challenge for targets.
Drake London has the opportunity to explode with Kirk Cousins throwing to him. I’m drafting him with confidence in 2024.
Tier 5 fantasy football WRs
- DK Metcalf – SEA
- Amari Cooper – CLE
- Terry McLaurin – WAS
- Deebo Samuel – SF
- Tee Higgins – CIN
This tier gives me pause. DK Metcalf never quite lives up to his hype. He has only finished inside the top 10 at WR once in his career. I’d rather let someone else take him.
If I had to take one player here, it would be Amari Cooper. While he is 30 years old, he’s still productive. Coming off a 1250-yard season, Cooper could be elite if his TD numbers were to improve (just 5 last year).
Tier 6 fantasy football WRs
- Tank Dell – HOU
- Stefon Diggs – HOU
- Calvin Ridley – TEN
- DeAndre Hopkins – TEN
- Diontae Johnson – CAR
- Keenan Allen – CHI
- George Pickens – PIT
- Chris Godwin – TB
You’ll notice a pair of teammates here because I don’t see a massive difference or weekly upside between them. I think the Texans’ WRs will cannibalize each other, making it impossible to know which week one goes off. Same for the Titans duo. I’d rather look elsewhere for my receiving depth.
I do love Diontae Johnson here. He’s going to become a target monster for Bryce Young. You’re buying a top 25 WR at a bargain basement price this year. He should see 140 targets and catch close to 100 of them. PPR steal in the middle rounds of your draft.
