The Arizona Cardinals roster has garnered some buzz at the 2024 NFL training camp. While certain names are nailed to make the 53-man roster for the upcoming season, the Cardinals must decide their cuts before Aug. 29.
Arizona had a poor run in the 2023 season, finishing with a 4-13 record under coach Jonathan Gannon. Now, the Cardinals need to show progress, and coach Gannon has to get it right with his final roster for the upcoming season.
On that note, here's a look at three potential players who might not make it to the Cardinals' 53-man roster.

Candidate No. 1: Michael Carter, RB
The Cardinals claimed Carter off waivers in November last year. However, the running back failed to make a strong impression on the team, and may not make it to the 53-man roster.
Furthermore, Arizona drafted Trey Benson in the third round of the NFL draft this year. Benson is likely to serve as the backup to James Conner. Also, Emari Demercado and DeeJay Dallas might get the nod ahead of Carter in the upcoming season.
Candidate No. 2: Zach Pascal, WR
Pascal featured in 14 games for the Cardinals last year, but the wideout failed to catch a single touchdown. Barring a solid run in Arizona's training camp, it's highly unlikely that Pascal will make the 53-man Cardinals roster.
As things stand, Michael Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr., Zay Jones and Greg Dortch are practically guaranteed to make the roster. Rookies Tejhaun Palmer and Xavier Weaver will also add to the depth chart, which could possibly leave no further room to accommodate Pascal.
Candidate No. 3: L.J. Collier, DE
Collier joined the Cardinals before the 2023 season. However, the defensive end was placed on the team's injury reserve on Sept. 16.
Although Collier re-signed with Arizona earlier this year, it's unlikely that he will make the 53-man roster. With Bilal Nichols, Khyiris Tonga and the newly added Justin Jones, the stakes are high for a starting berth. Furthermore, Arizona selected Darius Robinson in the first round of the NFL draft this year, which could force Collier out of the squad.
