The Indianapolis Colts almost made the playoffs in the 2023 season. They will now look to build on that momentum in 2024.
Quarterback Anthony Richardson has returned from his shoulder injury to helm an offensive corps of Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, Josh Downs and Adonai Mitchell. They also have Pro Bowlers Ryan Kelly and Quenton Nelson to create opportunities for them.
But not everyone has an equal chance to be on the 53-man roster come September. Here are some of the biggest risks to fall off during final cuts ahead of training camp.

3 cut candidates on Colts roster ahead of NFL training camp
#3. Eric Tomlinson
Tight end has been a weakness for the Colts ever since Jack Doyle retired after the 2022 season. The likes of Mo-Alie Cox, Kylen Granson, Will Mallory and Jelani Woods have failed to make themselves indispensable so far.
There needs to be a culling of that group, and it should include another name in Eric Tomlinson, who joined earlier this year. It looks to be another throwaway period at the position before Chris Ballard makes a maneuver for Michigan's Colston Loveland.
#2. Laquon Treadwell
It is perhaps shocking for some to learn that Laquon Treadwell has been in the NFL for eight seasons and counting, given his lack of numbers. But it goes to show how he could be considered a bust, having been selected No. 23 overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 2016 after being monstrously productive as a junior at Ole Miss.
Now, he is with his fifth NFL team. But does anyone expect him to suddenly surpass the likes of Michael Pittman Jr. and Adonai Mitchell on the depth chart? That is a massive stretch.
#1. Sam Ehlinger
Sam Ehlinger was never expected to become the Colts' QB of the future when he was drafted in the sixth round in 2022. But as a third-stringer, he is now failing during this postseason.
In last Saturday's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, Jason Bean rushed for a touchdown to lead a 21-13 victory, negating an interception. In the 30-34 loss against the Denver Broncos on Aug. 11, he had a touchdown pass to Laquon Treadwell to put the team within striking distance.
Ehlinger, meanwhile, was picked off once in the game – not the best thing to do so when seeking a roster spot.
