The Houston Texans roster has drawn some attention amid their 2024 NFL training camp. With just under a month to go before the roster cuts, some players appear unlikely to make the 53-man squad.
The Texans had a solid run last season and clinched the AFC South title for the first time since 2019. They also beat the Cleveland Browns in the wildcard game before being taken down by the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
Since Houston has a strong core, coach DeMeco Ryans will aim to get rid of most of the deadwood that won't contribute much to the team's success in 2024. On that note, here's a look at three potential cuts the Texans could make ahead of submitting their 53-man roster on Aug. 29.
3 cut candidates on Houston Texans roster ahead of 2024 NFL season

Candidate No. 1: Robert Woods, WR
Woods has been in the NFL for 11 years and the veteran wideout isn't getting any quicker heading into the 2024 season. Moreover, the Texans boast some high-quality receivers with Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Noah Brown, Stefon Diggs, John Metchie and Xavier Hutchinson.
Texas will likely opt for the younger and more speedy wideouts over Woods, who is tipped as the seventh-choice wideout option. The 2021 Super Bowl winner with the LA Rams still has a few weeks to impress coach Ryans, but there is a high possibility that Woods might be cut from Houston's final roster.
Candidate No. 2: Dameon Pierce, RB
Pierce struggled to live up to expectations last season after a breakthrough year as a rookie in 2022. The running back will now need an excellent stint in the training camp to make it to the final Texans roster.
This is mainly because Houston has added Joe Mixon and Cam Akers to its roster. Moreover, the Texans have Dare Ogunbowale and Jawhar Jordan in their ranks, which could lead to Pierece's exclusion from the 53-man squad.
Candidate No. 3: Kurt Hinish, DT
Hinish had a rather underwhelming 2023 season with the Texans. He posted 16 tackles in 15 games and was largely ineffective.
Houston has made top additions to its defense this offseason, including Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry. With the likes of Folorunso Fatukasi and Mario Edwards Jr. also competing for a starting berth, Hinish might be left out of the Texans roster.
