Deep sleeper WRs in 2024 fantasy football

Managers who find consistent success in their fantasy football leagues likely know the value of finding late-round sleepers in their drafts. Hidden gems can sometimes be what puts a roster over the top, especially when a potential starter in a fantasy lineup is selected in a round when most other teams are taking their backups.

Many factors play a role in determining potential sleeper picks, but the idea is to find players with high ceilings, regardless of what their floor may be in fantasy football. This strategy can increase the probability of hitting a home run in the late rounds.

On that note, here is a list of three wide receivers worth taking this shot on for the 2024 fantasy football season:

#1 Khalil Shakir

The Buffalo Bills made a shocking decision during the 2024 NFL offseason when they moved on from Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. They have been their top two options in the passing game in recent years, so with both of them gone, a ton of targets are now available in what has been one of the best offenses in the NFL for the past few seasons.

It will be interesting to see how Josh Allen distributes his targets this season, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Khalil Shakir emerge as the WR1 in their hierarchy. He is the only projected starter returning from last season and already flashed his upside last year. He finished among the top 35 wide receivers in weekly fantasy scoring four times in his final nine games last season, and that was with Diggs and Davis both in the Bills' lineup.

#2 Joshua Palmer

Much like the Bills, the Los Angeles Chargers also suffered major losses to their pass catchers ahead of the 2024 fantasy football season. They moved on from Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler, who have served as their top three targets. Justin Hebet needs new players he can trust, and Joshua Palmer is an ideal candidate.

When filling in for Allen and Williams when they were injured last year, Palmer demonstrated his fantasy upside. He exceeded seven targets in five of his final eight games last year and scored a touchdown in three of them. Quentin Johnston failed to break out last season and Ladd McConkey is a rookie this year, so Palmer could be the WR1 for one of the best passers in the NFL.

#3 Rashid Shaheed

The New Orleans Saints used Rashid Shaheed sparingly last season, but he delivered in a big way when he was given opportunities to do so. He finished among the top 20 weekly wide receivers five times last year, including ranking among the top five players in his position twice.

This established Shaheed as a typical boom-or-bust player in fantasy football last season, much like Gabe Davis had been with the Bills. If the Saints give him a larger role this season, which is possible with Michael Thomas off of their roster, he could be in line for a breakout 2024 fantasy football season.
