As Kevin Stefanski may know, the state of NFL head coaches is constantly in motion. Hirings, firings, retirements, and even trades happen yearly to a large portion of the teams. However, some teams end up with the wrong coach. Still, they soldier on but know their true connection is out there somewhere.
Here's a look at three head coaches who are with the wrong team in 2025.

#1 - Kevin Stefanski, Browns

This is a case in which when the head coach was given plenty of manpower, Kevin Stefanski managed to deliver. When he had Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb, he was able to deliver an 11-5 record and an appearance in the divisional round, per Pro Football Reference.
Almost as soon as that happened, the Browns plucked Mayfield away, leaving Kevin Stefanski with what has objectively become one of the lowest ROIs on a quarterback in NFL history (Deshaun Watson).
Had Stefanski gone anywhere with a stable roster, he might have ended up with a much better-looking record. He's still on the Browns' staff, so they know he has value, but they simply haven't been able to give him the tools to succeed.
#2 - Brian Daboll, Giants

Brian Daboll got to the playoffs with Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones in 2022. Since then, after an injury to Jones in 2023, Daboll saw the Giants letting Saquon Barkley walk as well as Daniel Jones.
Had Daboll been with an organization that could have added a Malik Nabers-type talent in addition to keeping the quarterback and Pro Bowl running back around, he might have had a shot at a playoff run not seen since Eli Manning.
#3 - Todd Bowles, Buccaneers

Todd Bowles is a defensive-minded coach but is on a team where it is clear that the personnel favors the offense. Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Baker Mayfield, Bucky Irving, and Cade Otten make for an offensively loaded roster but a defense lacking stars of a similar caliber.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster is built for an offensive-minded coach, not a defensive one. Bowles has a place as a head coach in the NFL, but he needs to be on a defense-first team with a defense-first roster construction.
He's proven an ability to get to the first two rounds of the playoffs regularly with a roster built against his strengths. Imagine how far he could go with a roster built to them instead.
