The NFL is one of the most physical and grueling leagues in the world and is a sport where heavier players thrive. NFL prospects are typically judged based on size and skill, and players of a lesser build are not as regarded as their heavier counterparts.
Today's list highlights three of the most enormous individuals to step foot on the gridiron and play more than a handful of games in the National Football League. These players regularly struck fear into the hearts of opponents, and opposing coordinators must have had nightmares of game planning around them.
So without further ado, here's a list of the three heaviest players to grace the National Football League.

Three heaviest players in NFL history
Here's a list of the three biggest players to grace the gridiron and their peak weight while participating in the league:
#3 Nate Newton, Dallas Cowboys, OL, 401 Pounds
Dallas Cowboys legend Nate Newton crossed the 400-pound mark during his playing days in the 1980s and 1990s.
Newton was an incredible player, winning three Super Bowls and earning six Pro Bowls and two All-Pro selections during his 17-year career. Newton is by far the most accomplished big man in the history of the National Football League and a part of the most excellent Dallas Cowboys team. He helped protect the Dallas Cowboys' quarterbacks and running backs during his time in the NFL and is one of Jerry Jones' favorite players.
Cowboys players of his era have only good things to say about Newton, as he had charisma and a soft heart beneath his massive frame. However, as an overzealous pass defender, you would want to avoid meeting Newton at full speed.
#2 Terrell Brown, St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, OT, 403 Pounds
Terrell Brown was not only one of the heaviest but one of the tallest NFL players of all time. The 6' 10" massive offensive tackle was listed at 388 pounds but weighed in at 403 pounds when St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams plucked him out of Ole Miss in 2013.
Terrell Brown's height, size and football ability were a sight to behold, and opposing teams were probably terrified of coming up against him once or twice a year. He had an excellent career with the Rams and was a solid role player.

#1 Aaron Gibson, Multiple Teams, OT, 410 Pounds
In high school, Aaron Gibson weighed in at 440 pounds and holds the National Football League record for being the heaviest player at 410 pounds. After he became a 1998 Consensus All-American at Wisconsin, the Detroit Lions made the offensive tackle their first-round pick in the 1999 NFL draft.
Gibson played with the Lions, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and other professional Football Leagues. Unfortunately, the heaviest in the NFL did not succeed like Nate Newton and Terrell Brown.
Maybe it was down to the coaching, or maybe he wasn't good enough at the highest level, but one thing is for sure. He did not live up to the expectations following his stellar college football career.
