The Dallas Cowboys have failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020, finishing the 2024 regular season with a 7-10 record. Jerry Jones' side looked off pace all season, and it's not surprising that it failed to make it out of a stacked NFC.

The Cowboys dealt with injuries, head coach rumors and contract drama throughout the season. Hence, this offseason is shaping up to be crucial for Jones and his squad.

Before the 2025 season, let's examine three moves Jerry Jones should make to ensure his side contends for a Super Bowl shortly.

Three moves that Jerry Jones should make for Dallas Cowboys to contend for the Super Bowl

1. Hire Aaron Glenn as head coach

Aaron Glenn has done wonders with the Detroit Lions as their defensive coordinator. Glenn is a brilliant coaching mind, and it's just a matter of time before a team hands him his first head coaching gig in the NFL.

Furthermore, Jerry Jones knows Aaron Glenn well, as he played for the Cowboys for two seasons. This hire would make a lot of sense, as the Cowboys have struggled significantly since Dan Quinn's departure to coach the Washington Commanders.

It would be a savvy hire and one that should be made rather than making a high-risk hire such as Deion Sanders or Jason Witten.

2. Draft Walter Nolen

The Dallas Cowboys' struggles at defensive tackle are well documented, and they need to sort out such issues to be a Super Bowl contender. Osa Odighizuwa is set to be a free agent, and the Cowboys could let him walk and draft standout DT Walter Nolen in the later stages of the first round.

Nolen thrived at college, and he looks the part of a Dallas Cowboys DT. According to Bleacher Report, Nolen has a decent base when taking on blocks, making it hard for teams to double-team him. Furthermore, he'll be able to learn from one of the best in the game, Micah Parsons, in his rookie season and beyond.

3. Trade up and draft a second wide receiver

The Dallas Cowboys have a top-three wide receiver in CeeDee Lamb, and they're guaranteed 1,000 plus receiving yards a season so far as Lamb stays healthy. However, no team contends for a Super Bowl without having a solid WR2.

Hence, the Cowboys need to sort out this need in the offseason. Due to potential salary cap issues, they should look into the draft and pick up a rookie wideout.

They could decide to package a player or pick and trade up to the first round and select one of Emeka Egbuka from Ohio State or Jalen Royals from Utah State. Both pass catchers have a similar build and are top-notch route runners. Drafting either would reduce double teams on CeeDee Lamb and give Dak Prescott yet another deep ball threat.
