Arthur Smith is a candidate to be the New York Jets head coach in 2025. Some may groan at the idea, but there is reason to believe it could work. Of course, is the 21-30 candidate the best on the market? Maybe not. However, when teams hire coaches, they hire chances of success. There is a chance of success with Smith.

Here are three reasons why the odds of him working out are realistic.

Why Arthur Smith serving as Jets head coach makes sense

#1 - Previous head coaching experience

First and foremost, adding Arthur Smith would provide something the Jets didn't have with Robert Saleh. Saleh forced the Jets to be patient as he worked through growing pains that veterans have already ironed out.

Smith, who coached the Falcons for three years, already has had plenty of time to work out most of the kinks of the job. This means that expectations can be raised in the short term.

#2 - Has already groomed a rookie quarterback before

While the Atlanta Falcons experiment with Desmond Ridder didn't work out, it did give Smith practice in how to teach a first-time quarterback. If the Jets decide to go with a rookie quarterback this year, it would allow Smith to go about things differently and hopefully better.

If it works, the Jets will look like geniuses who saw something that others overlooked. Plus, after working with Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers, he might have picked up a trick or two that the Jets could use.

#3 - Plenty of practice scheming against AFC defenses

Smith has worked as an offensive coordinator for three years across multiple AFC teams, per Pro Football Reference. As such, he has had plenty of practice sizing up the AFC opponents presented on the team's schedule.

Teams played in their conference for the majority of their contests and while his roster might change by going to the New York Jets, the schemes and stars on those different teams often stay similar.

As such, he has effectively played against plenty of teams that the Jets would be facing in 2025. This also gives a reason to believe that a sudden surge could take place from the Jets on his watch.

Saleh spent most of his time in the years leading up to the Jets with the NFC's San Francisco 49ers. As such, it took him some extra time to catch up on the rip. That wouldn't be the case for Smith.
