3 reasons why Ezekiel Elliott to Los Angeles Chargers makes perfect sense

Ezekiel Elliott's time with the Dallas Cowboys has (once again) come to an end. The Cowboys could have kept the running back handcuffed to the organization, but instead they gave him the chance to get a shot at a Super Bowl. By definition, this automatically eliminated more than half of NFL teams. However, one landing spot makes sense.

Here's a look at why the Chargers should be interested in Elliott.

#1 - Playoff experience

While Elliott hasn't accrued any experience past the Divisional round with the Dallas Cowboys, he still has won playoff games before in his career. As such, he has one piece to his resume that separates him from much of the free agent market.

Having playoff experience is important because he already has a mindset, routine, and the knowhow to safeguard his body as the intensity ratchets up.

Other inexperienced players will be wading into a learning experience this time of year and that's something the Chargers should avoid signing up for if they can avoid it.

#2 - 2024 Chargers injuries

The Chargers' backfield has been far from perfect in terms of injuries this year. Gus Edwards and JK Dobbins have alternated injury designations for much of the second half of the season. Even now, Gus Edwards is listed as questionable for Week 18, per ESPN. As such, adding another player into the mix gives an extra layer of protection should one go down in January.

Plus, if a player gets gassed in one of the playoff games after a long season, Elliott will be available as a fresh set of legs for a play or two.

#3 - Cheap option

As a free agent potentially in the final moments of his NFL career, Elliott's next month of work is setting up to be more about getting a championship and seeing past the playoff veil before he calls it quits. In other words, it isn't about the money. The Chargers likely could sign Elliott for the league minimum and after the season, they can let him go with no strings attached.

At this point, adding Ezekiel Elliott would also help guarantee ticket sales for the franchise that has a history of struggling to maintain a true home-field advantage. While the Chargers are more likely than not to go on the road in January, as the sixth seed, there is a remote possibility of the team hosting a playoff game.

Adding Ezekiel Elliott would essentially pay for itself and boost the home-field advantage for Justin Herbert.
