The New York Giants selected Daniel Jones with the sixthl pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Since then, the quarterback has had one good season in 2022, for which he was rewarded with a four-year, $160 million contract extension.

The Giants' decision to offer Jones a lucrative contract extension raised concerns around the league and the team now finds itself in a challenging situation. They finished 6-11 last season, but that record was not enough to fetch a top-three draft pick this year.

It is no secret that the Giants wanted to draft a quarterback this year, but their draft position did not help them. They ultimately drafted Malik Nabers with the fifth pick, and so far, he has played like a superstar. However, the team needs a new quarterback to throw him the ball, and they might already be looking at potential replacements for Jones.

Last night, the Giants lost 20-15 against the Dallas Cowboys, and although Jones had decent stats, some throws that he missed could have changed the outcome of the game. New York is 1-3 to start the season, and it will likely have a top draft pick next year.

Daniel Jones still has two years left on his contract, but the Giants could part ways with him next year by taking a dead cap hit of $22.21 million.

Since the Giants' focus will be on long-term success, signing a veteran quarterback in free agency or trading for one does not make sense. Based on that, here are some quarterbacks that the franchise will likely target to replace Jones.

Daniel Jones replacements:

#1. Shedeur Sanders

Colorado's Shedeur Sanders could very well be the first quarterback to get selected in next year's draft. Playing in a big market like New York will be enticing for Sanders, and if the Giants put the right pieces around him, he can be a successful quarterback for them.

The Giants already have a superstar in Malik Nabers. Getting Sanders will be an upgrade over Jones, as head coach Brian Daboll could maximize the Colorado quarterback's potential.

Even if Daboll gets fired, the franchise will likely bring in an offensive-minded head coach whose main job will be to develop the rookie quarterback. In four games this year, Sanders has thrown for 1,340 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions. He may not be as good with his legs as Daniel Jones is, but he is undoubtedly a better passer.

#2. Quinn Ewers

Quinn Ewers, from Texas, is another quarterback the Giants could target based on the pick they will have next year. Ewers has been Texas' quarterback for the last three years and has the experience of playing for a big team.

He has a very good arm and does well to avoid pressure from the defense while throwing from the pocket. The Giants do not have an elite offensive line, but Ewers is the kind of player who could make things work and be a star in the league.

In 25 games for Texas across three years, he has thrown for 6,347 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, with a completion percentage of 65.3.

#3. Carson Beck

Another quarterback whose name could come up early in the 2025 NFL Draft is Carson Beck of Georgia. If the New York Giants miss out on Shadeur Sanders and have concerns about Quinn Ewers, they could get Beck.

He is arguably the most accurate quarterback in next year's draft class, and his quick release will help him a lot in the NFL. In 14 games for Georgia last year, he threw for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions with a completion percentage of 72.4.

This year, he has completed 68.3% of his throws for 680 yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions in three games. Having a quarterback who does not turn the ball over is a luxury for any team, and Beck can also make plays with his legs when required.

#4. Trey Lance

Trey Lance will be a free agent next year, and he is a low-risk, high-reward option for any team in the NFL. Despite getting drafted in 2021, Lance is still 24 years old and certainly has the tools to excel in the league.

The Giants could cut ties with Daniel Jones and sign Lance on a one-year deal to see if the head coach could bring the best out of him. If the Lance experiment goes horribly wrong, the franchise will be in a position to draft Arch Manning in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Many people believe that Manning is a more promising prospect than any quarterback in next year's draft class. Considering his uncle Eli Manning's history with the Giants, he seems to be the best fit to be their future quarterback.
