5 free agent players Chiefs should target before training camp as Patrick Mahomes and co. eye three-peat in 2024

Super Bowl LVIII Opening Night
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have only one goal in mind

The Kansas City Chiefs are aiming for a three-peat during the 2024 season, and everything short of this will be a disappointment for them. While having Patrick Mahomes unlock the door for everything else, the team can't hang on to the same hope of last year that the quarterback will solve everything.

Looking at the free agency group and how they suffered offensively last year, there are still a few names they could look at to bolster the support for Mahomes and make another title more palpable.

Check out some free agents the Chiefs should sign before training camp to improve the roster.

5 free agents the Chiefs should look to sign

#1 - Hunter Renfrow, WR

Renfrow's first three years with the Las Vegas Raiders were spectacular. The receiver had over 1.000 yards in one season and even earned a contract extension. However, in 2022, a concussion seemingly changed the course of his career. Renfrow is expected to accept a minimum contract full of incentives to get his career back on track.

#2 - Michael Thomas, WR

Thomas is another receiver who shone but saw injuries derail his career. In 2019, with the New Orleans Saints, Michael Thomas led the league in receptions and yards, but from then on, it was all downhill: only 20 games in four seasons without any significant production. Now, he must find a team that will use him as a complementary piece to prove that he can still be useful in the NFL.

#3 - Stephon Gilmore, CB

His best years are behind him, and you can't expect Gilmore to play like he did in 2019, when he earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Still, Gilmore could provide valuable experience and even more depth to a Chiefs defense that will miss L'Jarius Sneed in 2024.

#4 - Kareem Hunt, RB

Hunt is no longer the same explosive player he once was, but he's still a solid complementary running back, especially due to his good vision with the ball in his hands. A well-rounded and experienced player, he is productive on short-yardage plays or working as a receiver, especially on screen passes.

#5 - David Bakhtiari, OT

Like Michael Thomas, Bakhtiari had great moments until 2020. Since then, injuries have left him on the stretcher more than on the field, and now his mission is to prove that he can play football again. If he can, he will be one of those OTs who leave their quarterbacks feeling very safe at their job, something that Jawaan Taylor didn't give the Chiefs last year.
