The New York Jets are beginning a new era in the 2025 season. They have a new head coach in Aaron Glenn, who was a cornerback for them for the first eight seasons of his playing career.
And the former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator has these important things to do, among others, if he wants to return the moribund franchise to title glory – a level of success not seen since Joe Namath "guaranteed" victory at Super Bowl III almost 60 years ago.
He does not even have a general manager yet, but Glenn should look to make these immediate moves to try and turn the franchise around and start moving in the right direction.

#5. Get a young special teams duo
Brant Boyer is considered one of the most underappreciated coaches in the NFL. Having begun his coaching career with one-year internships with intrastate rivals Giants and Cleveland Browns, the former linebacker then joined the Indianapolis Colts. He turned veteran kicker Adam Vinatieri and punter-turned-sportscaster Pat McAfee into one of the best special teams duos in the league during his tenure there.
He joined the Jets in 2016 and has become a "keeper" throughout the franchise's years of misery, with his unit ranking second in 2021 despite a 4-13 record. But for 2025, if Glenn is to keep him, he needs fresh legs.
Fortunately, there are a couple of hidden gems out there. Anders Carlson is already a Jet and could use a redemption arc after bouncing around the league, while fellow 2023 sixth-rounder Brad Robbins may want a new home after a quad injury prematurely ended his time as a Cincinnati Bengal.
#4. Emphasize tackling
As a former cornerback, Aaron Glenn knows how important the art of tackling should be. The problem is, the 2024 Jets became notorious for their lack of tackling skills. This is best exemplified by Sauce Gardner's failed attempt to stop Trey McBride during the embarrassing 31-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10:
In fairness to the former Defensive Rookie of the Year, the tight end outweighed him by around 50 lbs. But he needs to add some weight and work on his physicality, and tackling is paramount to such development.
#3. Find a new, more dynamic tight end
Speaking of tight ends, Tyler Conklin has proven serviceable in his three years as a Jet, catching 170 balls for 1,622 yards and seven touchdowns. But as he enters free agency, it is clear that the Jets need a more dynamic person at the position.
The best prospects in the current draft class appear to be Penn State's Tyler Warren and Michigan's Colston Loveland. Each of them, with the right coaching, could develop into an offensive monster who can terrify opposing defenses in both blocking and receiving.
#2. Restore confidence in Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall
Like Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall are members of the 2022 draft class. The former was the No. 10 overall pick; the latter a second-rounder. Both should also clearly be part of the team's offensive core – a notion that Aaron Glenn should embrace.
If he can maximize the talents of these two, then a bright future awaits not just them, but the entire team.
#1. Replace Aaron Rodgers with Jordan Travis
Keyshawn Johnson said it best: the Aaron Glenn era will mark the creation of a new Jets culture – and Aaron Rodgers and his "diva" ways have no place in it.
Much has been said about how the multiple-time MVP's decision on his future will play into Jordan Travis' prospects of becoming the team's starter in this new era, as explained by Jets X-Factor's Thomas Christopher:
"A change in the staff always complicates things a bit. However, continuity of the quarterback room for another year allows the unit to continue to progress – which is especially important for a player like Travis.
"Considering where the Jets are likely to draft in 2025, it doesn’t make much sense to reach for a quarterback in the first round, either. That should extend the lifeline of Travis in New York, and it could allow him to speak his words into existence and potentially become the eventual starter for the Jets."
But whether it be Travis, Mac Jones, Jaxson Dart or someone else, one thing should be clear: Gang Green needs a change under center moving forward.
