For Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, returning to the playoffs is all that matters. The team is looking to once again fight for the AFC with the Kansas City Chiefs after a "down" year in 2023 – they had a positive record, but they couldn't make the postseason after Burrow got injured.
The salary cap had the team losing some important players, which led to some concerns about what Cincinnati needs to focus on fixing in July.
5 concerns for Joe Burrow and Cincinnati Bengals ahead of 2024 season
#1. Wide receiver depth
Tee Higgins is under the franchise tag, Tyler Boyd has left the team and, if you take away Ja'Marr Chase (and Higgins, of course), the depth at the position is certainly not the Bengals' greatest strength. If they suffer from injuries again, the passing offense will have a lot of problems.

#2. Who's taking over at cornerback?
Chidobe Awuzie left the team, Daxton Hill is better suited to play safety than cornerback and the position was never a strength before. This might not be a problem in some games, but when you have to defend Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs it's another thing.
#3. Will Cincinnati miss D.J. Reader?
Reader is one of those guys whose production is always massive, but he usually is away from the spotlight due to his position as an interior defensive lineman. After some great years in Cincinnati, he moved to the Detroit Lions for a low price, and Kris Jenkins isn't ready to impact yet. That's a huge question mark for the Bengals.
#4. Can the offensive line remain consistent?
Orlando Brown and Trent Brown are the two starters, but both have their own concerns; nobody doubts the potential of Amarius Mims, however, he still has a bit to go before getting ready to play at the pro level – his intangibles are great, though. But if you're looking for 2024 only, this could quickly become a problem.
#5. Joe Burrow's health for the season?
The biggest question mark of them all. Last year, Burrow got hurt in camp without even being touched, and it affected his entire season. The Bengals have to make sure this doesn't happen again and that he has 17 games under his belt during the regular season.
