Lamar Jackson in the spotlight for NFL Playoffs

The NFL playoffs are set to kick off this weekend as all 14 teams continue their quest for the Super Bowl. This time of the year always creates opportunities for players to build on their legacies, but some have more to prove than others at this point in their careers.

Here are five of them that need to make a statement this year.

#5 - Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold broke out in a major way for the Minnesota Vikings this season. He was signed during the offseason to serve as a backup but emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season.

Rookie JJ McCarthy was drafted last year to be their future quarterback, but Darnold's performance in the playoffs could change the direction of the franchise, as well as his pending contract situation.

#4 - Saquon Barkley

The Philadelphia Eagles opted not to play Saquon Barkley in Week 18, despite him closing in on the single-season rushing record. They decided it was more important to rest him for the playoffs. This adds more pressure on him to have an impact on their postseason run.

#3 - Justin Herbert

Justin Herbert has been one of the most productive young quarterbacks during his career with the Los Angeles Chargers so far but has only played in one postseason game. His team blew a massive lead last time out, so he is looking for a better result in his second appearance. He should be hoping to avoid being labeled as a regular-season star who can't get the job done when it matters most.

#2 - Josh Allen

Josh Allen has consistently been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but he has failed to help the Buffalo Bills reach a Super Bowl during his career so far. He is one of the favorites to be named the NFL MVP this season, which would be his first such award, but it would be even more important for his legacy if he could make a Super Bowl run.

#1 - Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson is under a lot of pressure to perform well during the playoffs. He is already one of the most decorated regular-season quarterbacks, having won two NFL MVP awards and being a strong contender for a third this season, as well as being the all-time leader in career rushing yards by a quarterback.

To be considered one of the greatest players of all time, he must lead the Baltimore Ravens to more playoff success at some point.
