There have been a massive raft of changes in the NFC. From new quarterbacks to big-name free agency signings elsewhere, it can be argued that the competition in the conference is getting more intense.

But only a select handful of teams can rightfully be considered title contenders - the ones with the most complete and stacked rosters encompassing both sides of the ball.

Here's a rundown of the five teams that have the best odds of reaching Super Bowl LVIII...

#5. Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders have a legitimate shot at dominating the NFC East in the 2024-25 season.

The all-new tandem of head coach Dan Quinn and General Manager Adam Peters has done a commendable job of bolstering the roster. Starting on the offense, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels inherits a decently talented core of Brian Robinson Jr., Austin Ekeler, Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Zach Ertz.

But it is in the trenches where this team shines. Guard Nick Allegretti reunites with his fellow Super Bowl-winning ex-Kansas City Chief Andrew Wylie, while center Tyler Biadasz joins from Quinn's Dallas Cowboys of old.

Speaking of ex-Cowboys, defensive ends Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler also cross over to form a terrifying line with tackles Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne – a rotation that also includes Clelin Ferrell and rookie Jer'Zhan Newton. Behind them are linebackers Bobby Wagner, Frankie Luvu and Jamin Davis.

The Commanders' only weakness is arguably the secondary, but Michael Davis should prove a decent replacement for Kendall Fuller beside Benjamin St. Juste. And farther back are Percy Butler and Darrick Forest – a young, promising safety duo complemented by free-agency signing Jeremy Chinn.

#4. Philadelphia Eagles

After a shocking late-season collapse in 2024 that culminated in a Wild Card exit and the retirements of franchise stalwarts Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox, the Philadelphia Eagles have retooled.

Running back Saquon Barkley is their headline acquisition, having been poached from the divisional rival New York Giants. He joins an offensive core that includes quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receivers AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, tight ends Dallas Goedert and C.J. Uzomah and an offensive line that still boasts Pro Bowlers Landon Dickerson and Lane Johnson among others.

Defensively, Cox's retirement fully paves the way for Jalen Carter to star alongside Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, and Josh Sweat in the trenches. Devin White crosses over from Tampa Bay as the new star linebacker, replacing now-New York Jet Haason Reddick.

And then there is the secondary – the deepest in the conference. The Eagles still have Pro Bowlers Darius Slay and James Bradberry and Avonte Maddox manning the corners, with rookies Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell backing them up, while C.J. Gardner-Johnson returns from Detroit to lead a safety unit that includes Sydney Brown and Reed Blankenship.

#3. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams may have lost Aaron Donald to retirement, but they may have improved during the offseason.

Kobie Turner looks set to assume the future Hall of Famer's starting spot beside nose tackle Bobby Brown III. Behind them, Byron Young and Ernest Jones command a dominating linebacker corps. And the secondary has gained a pair of major upgrades in cornerbacks Tre'Davious White and Darious Williams, the latter of whom is returning after two years in Jacksonville.

Offensively, Pro Bowl guard Jonah Jackson joins an offensive line tasked with creating opportunities for quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Kyren Williams. The three-headed monster that is Cooper Kupp, Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua is still there, too.

That makes tight end the Rams' only weakness, especially with Tyler Higbee still recuperating from a knee injury. However, former Seattle Seahawk Colby Parkinson represents a credible signing – a very versatile player who can block for both runs and passes while still being able to make catches when necessary.

#2. Detroit Lions

Is a dynasty in store for the Detroit Lions?

Not since the days of Bobby Sanders has the team been this strong enough to win the NFC North, let alone contend for a Super Bowl berth. But head coach Dan Campbell and General Manager Brad Holmes have accomplished that task in just three seasons.

And it starts with an offense that boasts Jared Goff, David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta, enabled by an offensive line that boasts Pro Bowlers Penei Sewell and Frank Ragnow.

Defensively, Aidan Hutchinson has emerged as the future star of the line, facilitating the exploits of linebackers Jack Campbell and Alex Anzalone. And the secondary is no longer a weakness for the Lions, with former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Carlton Davis and rookie Terrion Arnold joining versatile sophomore Brian Branch.

#1. San Francisco 49ers

NFC Championship - Detroit Lions v San Francisco 49ers

Who else was going to top this list?

The San Francisco 49ers have All-Pros and Pro Bowlers everywhere on the field:

  • QB Brock Purdy
  • RB Christian McCaffrey
  • FB Kyle Juszczyk
  • WR Deebo Samuel
  • WR Brandon Aiyuk
  • TE George Kittle
  • OT Trent Williams
  • DT Javon Hargrave
  • DE Nick Bosa
  • LB Fred Warner
  • CB Charvarius Ward
  • S Talanoa Hufanga

And the scary thing is, that is not just the extent of their roster strength. While they have suffered some losses (like starting defensive linemen Arik Armstead and Clenin Ferrell), they have also gained more pieces. Tight end Logan Thomas, defensive end Leonard Floyd, linebacker DeVondre Campbell and cornerback Rock Ya-Sin have joined the roster.

Such depth makes the 49ers the healthiest favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl for the second straight time and third in the Kyle Shanahan-John Lynch era.
