The offense draws crowds to arenas even though the defense may win titles. Teams depend to an increasing extent on their starting quarterback and his arsenal to produce results.
Meanwhile, despite having ample chances in free agency and the NFL Draft, many of the league's teams have labored year after year to perfect their offense.
The five worst offenses from the 2022 NFL season are shown below.

#5 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' campaign hasn't gone as their supporters had hoped. The offense is the primary concern that must be dealt with in the off-season, even though the rushing game and the management have taken the majority of criticism from supporters and the media. They are by no means faultless too.
The offensive line for Tampa Bay has significantly regressed and is projected to score only half as many TDs as it did a year ago.
Although Super Bowl hangovers are known to linger into the following season, extending into the second year is relatively unusual.
The fact that Chris Godwin, Russell Gage, Mike Evans, and Julio Jones have missed game time this season due to injuries or suspensions hasn't helped either.
#4 - Indianapolis Colts
Those who have been watching the Indianapolis Colts this campaign will be aware that the attacking side of the ball is where most of the problems are. The Colts' offensive line has been a colossal letdown this season. With a pitiful average of 17.5 points per game, the Colts are ranked 28th in the NFL.
Given such figures, it is not surprising that the Colts have a 4-9-1 record and are floundering. The Colts' unit at the back has contributed, but in the modern NFL, winning games depends mainly on the offense.
Whether these defeats are self-inflicted, they demonstrate how broken the offensive unit has grown.
#3 - Houston Texans
The Houston Texans have consistently had one of the worst attacks in the NFL since trading away Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins, and this season is no different.
The Texans will get the first overall pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, allowing them to turn around their current situation.
#2 - Los Angeles Rams
You had to wonder what was wrong with the Rams' offensive play after witnessing them struggle during the 2022 NFL season. On Monday Night Football, the Los Angeles Rams offensive unit put out yet another subpar performance as they were defeated by the Green Bay Packers 24-12.
The Rams' dynamic attack has vanished since they won the Super Bowl LVI last postseason. The Rams' offensive unit is 31st in the NFL for points scored, which amply demonstrates how underwhelming it is.
As with many other things, there are multiple contributing factors to the Rams' difficulties in the offense. The front office's choices regarding the offensive line raise some red flags. Sean McVay and the coaching staff undoubtedly have a voice in the personnel decisions, though.
#1 - Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos' historically poor offensive play is why they are 4-10. Only averaging 15.6 points scored per game is a clear sign that there is a severe problem.
Nathaniel Hackett, Denver's offensively oriented head coach, has generally come under fire for his play-calling and decision-making.
