The Denver Broncos have historically been one of the more successful franchises in the NFL. Making eight Super Bowls and winning three, they have had their fair share of Hall of Famers, like John Elway and Shannon Sharpe.

However, not every Bronco has had the same lofty profile as others. Some of them have been massively overestimated despite the insignificance of their contributions. These are the five greatest examples.

Most overrated players in Broncos history

#5 Terrell Davis

It's unfortunate that a Hall of Famer like Terrell Davis is on this list because he was arguably the biggest contributor to the Broncos' surprising Super Bowl wins late into John Elway's career.

However, that's what happens when injuries take such a toll that you play only 17 games over the next three seasons and eventually retire before even turning 30.

#4 Julius Thomas

Shannon Sharpe has undoubtedly put a very high standard for his former team's tight ends to clear. That's why no one should be surprised to see three players at that position on that list, and that streak starts with Julius Thomas.

In 2013, after struggling with injuries and playing time in his first two seasons, he suddenly exploded for 12 touchdowns in 14 games as Peyton Manning's No. 4 option behind Wes Welker, Eric Decker and the late Demaryius Thomas.

That squad set multiple offensive records and reached Super Bowl XLVIII, only to be utterly humiliated 43-8 by the Seattle Seahawks and their Legion of Boom.

He scored a dozen times again in 2014 despite logging only just under 500 receiving yards. But the Broncos didn't make even the conference title game, losing to Manning's former team in the Divisional Round.

That would be the peak of his career, as he floundered in Florida (Jacksonville and Miami) before retiring.

#3 Owen Daniels

Speaking of Julius Thomas, his successor had a rather high bar set for him. Signed by the Broncos as a free agent in 2015, Owen Daniels was only decent, catching 46 passes for 517 yards and three touchdowns (though he helped them win Super Bowl 50).

Still, it's a shame that he was ditched afterwards (one year into his three-year contract), because his immediate successor Virgil Green came nowhere close to even matching his output.

#2 Vernon Davis

Speaking of that Super Bowl 50 squad, Vernon Davis was another of those tight ends, but his contribution was minimal at best.

Having established himself as one of the best pass-catchers and scorers at his position with the San Francisco 49ers, he suddenly found himself relegated to mostly blocking, as the aforementioned Owen Daniels took up receiving duties.

By that season's end, he was gone, commencing the final chapter of hs career at his hometown Redskins.

#1 Tim Tebow

Only one person was going to top off this list: Tim Tebow - the man, the myth, the legend.

Initially backing up Kyle Orton, he soon became the primary starter in his sophomore season and became a national sensation for his comeback drives whenever the Broncos won.

That hype intensified further when the team defeated the superior Pittsburgh Steelers to advance to the Divisional Round. where the New England Patriots were waiting.

It was a rout. The Patriots sacked Tebow five times, and he was never the same player again.
