It was reported on Monday that the Dallas Cowboys will be moving on from Mike McCarthy after his contract expired. He is expected to be interviewed for some of the vacancies around the NFL, including a reported interest from the Chicago Bears. Here are five reasons he is an ideal pick to pair with Caleb Williams after his rookie season.

Why Mike McCarthy makes sense for Bears' Caleb Williams

#1 - QB history

Mike McCarthy has plenty of experience working with successful quarterbacks during his career as a coach. He was paired with Aaron Rodgers for the Green Bay Packers and won a Super Bowl ring and with Dak Prescott for the Dallas Cowboys. This could be an attractive factor for the Bears as they try to elevate Caleb Williams to superstar.

#2 - Sacks

Williams was the most sacked QB in the entire NFL this season, averaging four sacks per game. Some of that is due to their offensive line and him holding the ball too long, but coaching and offensive schemes also play a big role in this. McCarthy's Cowboys ranked 13th in sacks allowed despite playing with a backup QB — so he could help Williams.

#3 - Career record

Mike McCarthy has proven that he is a winning coach in the NFL. He has a career 61% winning percentage and has also won 11 playoff games in 11 appearances with the Packers and Cowboys. The Bears haven't had a winning record since 2018, so having a coach who knows how to win games should help elevate Williams' overall performance.

#4 - Yards per play

The Bears were the worst offense in the league this year based on their average of 4.5 yards per play. The Cowboys ranked 26th, mostly due to Cooper Rush replacing the injured Dak Prescott. McCarthy helped the Cowboys rank seventh in this same metric last season in his first year calling plays in Dallas.

#5 - Matt Eberflus

Matt Eberflus failed to implement a successful offensive system for the Bears. In three years in his position, they ranked among the bottom 10 teams in the NFL in total yards and points scored, including Justin Fields and Caleb Williams. An offensive specialist with plenty of experience like McCarthy should help Williams take the next step forward.
