Brian Flores and Joe Brady are just two of a long list of potential head coach options in 2024. While the heavyweight option of Bill Belichick won't be an option this off-season, having joined the college ranks, there still are more options than positions to be filled. Brian Flores might be one of the top options, despite controversy.
Here's a look at ten potential head coach options in no particular order, including Brian Flores and Joe Brady.
Vance Joseph, DC, Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos defense had been a laughing stock after giving up 70 points to the Dolphins early in Joseph's second tenure in 2023, but since then, the unit has risen to be a top-ten unit. His previous head coaching experience makes him a solid option for a team looking to skip the rookie head coach growing pains next season.
Pete Carroll, Free Agent
At this point, Pete Carroll might be the top name on the list. While most of the options are all about untested potential, Carroll has done it all. He's coached in college and been to two consecutive Super Bowls as just one of a few head coaches to pull off the feat (2013-2014 Seattle Seahawks).
Ben Johnson, OC, Detroit Lions
Ben Johnson saw a nod in the season finale of Monday Night Football in which the commentators labeled him as a head coach option. Many analysts see him as the top option for 2025. Of course, he would be a rookie head coach, but could be the most sought-after candidate this offseason for what he has done to help turn around the historically moribund Lions franchise.
Kliff Kingsbury, OC, Washington Commanders
Kingsbury might be the offensive version of Vance Joseph. Fired from his first NFL head coaching tenure with Kyler Murray, Kingsbury has managed to make magic with Jayden Daniels. He would skip the rookie growing pains but also may have a lower ceiling than an untested rookie head coach that could turn out to be a genius.
Mike Vrabel, Free Agent
Mike Vrabel had been working with the Cleveland Browns but appears to be free to find his next landing spot. The former Titans head coach could be another heavyweight option depending on how the market shakes out this offseason, having coached in an AFC Championship game in 2019.
Kellen Moore, OC, Philadelphia Eagles
Kellen Moore knows the NFC East inside and out, having worked as an offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys under Mike McCarthy. With his first year with the Eagles under his belt, Moore managed to duplicate the tush push despite losing Jason Kelce and help fix the woeful second-half slump of 2023. After six years as a respected offensive coordinator, it seems that his time could be coming.
Aaron Glenn, DC, Detroit Lions
Aaron Glenn's been hit with defensive injuries worse than any other coordinator in the league. However, Glenn has managed to keep his unit just good enough to keep the Lions winning. With a lack of brand-name talent but a productive group, especially in shutting down defending NFC champion Brock Purdy late on Monday Night Football, Glenn could be a quality option in 2025.
Brian Flores, DC, Minnesota Vikings
Brian Flores has been in the news for his ongoing lawsuit with multiple NFL teams and his alleged claims of discriminatory hiring practices, per Sportico.
However, Brian Flores has managed to climb the ranks despite the lawsuit from an assistant coach with the Steelers to the defensive coordinator of the potential one seed Minnesota Vikings. At this point, as a previous head coach with the Dolphins, Brian Flores' resume might be hard to beat.
Joe Brady, OC, Buffalo Bills
Joe Brady lost Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis and was told to make it work. Now, Josh Allen appears to be the front-runner for MVP. Brady deserves plenty of credit for pulling off the job this year and as such, should be in the mix for a coaching hiring as a head coach in 2025.
