Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Charles Rodgers is an American football quarterback for the New York Jets in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers drafted Rodgers as the 24th pick in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Rodgers made his first start in the NFL in his fourth year when their starting quarterback, Brett Favre, retired in 2007. He finished the season with a record of 6-10 in 2008. During his thrid season as a starter, Rodgers recorded 3922 passing yards and a combined 32 touchdowns, leading the Packers to a Super Bowl XLV victory in 2010. After 17 seasons with the Packers, Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in 2023. Rodgers has several NFL records including a career passer rating (minimum 1,500 attempts) of 103.6, consecutive attempts without an interception (402), and fewest attempts to 30,000 passing yards (3,652).

Growing up in Chicago, Rodgers attended Pleasant Valley High School. He finished his high school career with 4,421 passing yards while starting at quarterback for two years. After high school, Rodgers wished to join Florida State, however, he failed to impress their scouts. After rethinking his college football career and a few struggles, Rodgers was recruited by Butte College in 2002. In his first season at Butte, Rodgers threw 26 touchdowns and guided the team to a 10-1 record, the NorCal Conference title, and a No. 2 national ranking. Rodgers was recruited by the University of California in 2003. He completed 424 passes for 5,469 yards and 43 touchdowns over two seasons with the Bears.

Aaron Rodgers Jersey Number

Aaron Rodgers wears jersey number 8 with the New York Jets, as of October 2024. He chose jersey number 8 following his trade to connect with his college roots. Rodgers chose the jersey number 12 in his rookie year and wore it for 17 years with the Green Bay Packers. However, he opted for a different number as the number 12 at the Jets is retired in honor of Joe Namath’s career.

Rodgers humbly declined the offer made by Namath asking him to wear number 12, as per Sports Illustrated. Replying to Namath’s request he said “I heard what he said about unretiring his number, but to me, 12 is Broadway Joe. I didn’t want to even go down that path, and I’m excited about going back to my college number.” Rodgers wore the number 12 during his high school days in Chicago. However, he shifted to 8 following his commitment to University of California.
