With an underwhelming 2024 NFL season with the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers is reportedly on his way out of the team. Rodgers missed his first season after sustaining an ACL injury four plays into the campaign. He hasn't missed a game this season, but his performance hasn't translated into wins for the Jets.
With reports suggesting Rodgers' days as a Jet are numbered, fans are starting to speculate about what will happen to the four-time NFL MVP and whether he'll retire after this season. Here are five candidates that could replace Rodgers if the Jets part with him.
Top 5 potential Aaron Rodgers replacements on Jets
5. Derek Carr
Derek Carr is the first of several quarterbacks mentioned by NFL insider Diana Russini as a potential candidate to take over Aaron Rodgers once his tenure with the Jets is done. Carr and the New Orleans Saints have looked better in the last two matchups after dropping six consecutive games.

Carr has recorded 517 passing yards and two passing touchdowns in his last two outings, which could attract some teams in free agency, including the Jets.
4. Trevor Lawrence
The Jacksonville Jaguars could move on from Doug Pederson after a terrible 2024 NFL season. They could also part with Trevor Lawrence and place their attention on two or three QB prospects entering the league in the 2025 NFL draft. Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward could open the door for the Jets to try to make a move for Lawrence as Rodgers' replacement.
3. Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones was released by the New York Giants on Friday and the market appears to be crowded for the six-year NFL veteran. It remains to be seen if he'd turn down the option to stay at MetLife Stadium to represent the other franchise that plays there or if he'll extend his stay in New York to try and prove the Giants wrong.
2. Justin Fields
Russini also mentioned Justin Fields as a potential target for the Jets in the offseason. The Pittsburgh Steelers QB led the team to a 3-0 start before he struggled as a passer. His talents as a runner could benefit the Jets, but Fields could also fill the boots of Aaron Rodgers after spending a season behind another veteran QB, Russell Wilson.
1. Jalen Milroe
While the Jets could miss out on the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft, they could still put their hands on an intriguing prospect. Jalen Milroe could lead a new era for the Jets, as his skills as a passer and rusher make him a dangerous test for opposing teams.
He still has things to polish, especially as a passer, but if he's paired up with the right coaches and general manager, the Alabama QB could thrive in New York.
