Aaron Rodgers had his work cut out coming into this game for the Jets against the Texans in Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season. His team had drafted him to lead them to the Super Bowl and yet, here he was, at the helm of a 2-6 team facing a 6-2 team. Their opponents were being led by C.J. Stroud, who is arguably the better quarterback in the league right now and has a reputation for protecting the ball as the former Packers star was once famous for.
The Jets had fired the head coach and were 0-3 with their interim appointment. New York had reunited him with Davante Adams but that was yet to show signs of working out. In the face of such daunting prospects and with his legacy on the line, Aaron Rodgers managed to pull out one of the gutsiest performances of his career and might have changed the narrative around their season. Here is how it went down.

The first half began inauspiciously for the four-time MVP. On the first drive, he overthrew a ball and a couple were missed by his wide receivers. It set the tone for the rest of the next two quarters.
He struggled mightily to complete his passes and looked as labored as he had ever done. The one good play that could have yielded a touchdown with a fake handoff followed by a jet sweep by Malachi Corley, ended up with a touchback after the wide receiver inexplicably dropped the ball before crossing into the endzone.
By the time the Jets went into their locker rooms for the break, boos were ringing down from the stands. Aaron Rodgers had completed seven of his 14 passes, had 32 passing yards, and no touchdowns. It was a horrific performance with questions arising as to whether New York had made a mistake in staking the franchise's future on a 40-year-old quarterback.
But we have often heard the old adage that class is permanent. The future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer reminded fans of that with his play in the second half. Right on the opening drive, he connected with Garrett Wilson to give the Jets their first points of the game.
However, they were trailing by 10-7 after the Texans made a field goal when he combined with Wilson again to change the course of the match. After a first down had been called back due to an offensive penalty, New York was in a third-and-long situation. Aaron Rodgers dropped back and lobbed a ball toward the back of the end zone to give his wide receiver a fighting chance to compete. And he came down with what may already be the catch of the season.
That seemed to revitalize the quarterback and the Jets' offense, especially after the Texans' kicker missed a short field goal that would have made the score 14-13 in the fourth quarter. Aaron Rodgers had a little more than six minutes remaining when he got the ball to seal the game.
First, he dinked and diced to eat up the clock. With Houston now committed to stopping the short yard plays, he tossed up a beauty to old Green Bay teammate Davante Adams for their first touchdown connection in New York.
By the end of it all, the Jets quarterback finished with 211 yards, three touchdown passes, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 118.1. It was a game of two halves and now their fans have hope that their season might be too.
