What really happened to Aaron Hernandez?
Aaron Hernandez played college football at the University of Florida from 2007 to 2009 as a tight end. He was named to the first team of the All-American team and led the Florida Gators to victory in the 2009 BCS national championship game.
Hernandez was not selected until the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft, despite his talent. According to reports, his stature and his off-field antics worried NFL organizations.
Hernandez and fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski established one of the most formidable tight end partnerships in the NFL in his three seasons with the New England Patriots. However, Hernandez was taken into custody and charged in 2013 with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional athlete who was dating the tight end's fiancée's sister.
Hernandez was found guilty of the accusation two years after his arrest, and he was sentenced to life in prison. He was found lifeless in his cell in 2017, and his death was determined to be a suicide. An autopsy after his passing revealed that the former Florida Gator had acute chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
