Amon-Ra St. Brown has proven himself one of the biggest draft steals in recent memory. The Detroit Lions' 2021 fourth-rounder out of USC has proven himself one of the best wide receivers in the league, hitting a thousand yards for the first time as a sophomore, then being a key contributor to the long-struggling franchise's first division title and conference title game appearance since the days of the legendary Barry Sanders in 2023.

In 2024, he stands to hit the aforementioned mark again with only a few games left. The first towards doing so in that stretch came on Thursday in a rematch against the Green Bay Packers, whom he and his team had defeated a month ago (he caught seven passes for 56 yards and a touchdown that day).

So, how did he fare? And what can be gleaned from his performance?

Amon-Ra St. Brown's stats vs. Packers on TNF

Here is how Amon-Ra St. Brown fared on Thursday:

  • Receptions: Five
  • Receiving yards: 43
  • Rushing attempts: One
  • Rushing yards: Ten

His performance was emblematic of the game itself: a slog despite the high scores. Points were earned, not given, especially Jake Bates’ game-winning field goal at the buzzer. He had to fight for his catches and yards, and they did not come easy and often.

But fortunately for St. Brown, other playmakers finally appeared to alleviate his burden.

Fellow wideout Jameson Williams, who has been dogged by suspensions for gambling and use of performance-enhancing substances, proved his mettle, leading the way with 80 yards from five grabs. Another wideout, Tim Patrick, had six for 43 and two touchdowns, while tight end Sam LaPorta was once again productive, covering 54 on five.

Running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs almost hit 100 rushing yards between them, and each scored a touchdown as well in differing ways.

The defense managed only one sack and no interceptions all night long, but they did force a fumble on Christian Watson early in the game. However, their most consequential snap was the penultimate one.

With the Packers deeply entrenched in enemy territory and looking to retake the lead, the Lions stood firm, forcing their rivals to settle for a field goal and only tie the game. That allowed head coach Dan Campbell to burn as much of the clock as he could, and he elected to burn it all - turning the final field goal attempt into the walk-off.
