Andy Reid is the 13th head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Since starting his head coaching career, he has led his teams to three Super Bowl appearances -- the Philadelphia Eagles (2014) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2020 and 2021).
He won his first Super Bowl in 2020, when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV. He will coach in his fourth Super Bowl on Sunday when the Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles.
It's oddly fitting that Reid is the Chiefs' 13th coach because he gained national attention when he was only 13 years old. A video clip re-appears every year in which a 13-year-old Andy Reid is seen participating in a youth football competition that the NFL used to run between 1961 and 2017.
According to Ken Gerard, one of Reid’s physical education teachers at Thomas Starr King Junior High School, Reid was 6'2" and weighed 220 pounds when he was 13 years old.

Players between the ages of 5 to 16 were welcomed to take part in the competition, which was held in several places around the United States. For each attempt at a punt, pass, or kick, the competitors received a score depending on the distance and accuracy. The player's overall score was then calculated by adding together the scores of all three attempts.
The video above shows a group of boys all wearing matching uniforms. One boy towers above the other five boys standing behind him. The boy at the front of the line is none other than Andy Reid, who was only 13 years old.
At halftime, the passing competition was shown on national television. Reid had to borrow an adult-sized Rams jersey from one of the players because of his stature. Reid participated in the event sporting Les Josephson's jersey. Josephson was a 6'1", 207-pound athlete, according to Sports Illustrated.

Andy Reid's coaching career
Reid began his coaching career with the Green Bay Packers, where he served as an offensive assistant from 1992 to 1998 and won Super Bowl XXXI.
When he took over as head coach of the Eagles for the first time in 1999, they regularly made the playoffs. Reid led the Eagles to nine playoff berths, six division championships, five NFC Championship Games (including four in a row from 2001 to 2004), and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX.
Despite his accomplishments, Reid was unable to win a Super Bowl trophy. After the 2012 season, as the franchise struggled, he was fired by Philadelphia.
After being named the head coach of the Chiefs in 2013, Reid turned the struggling squad around. Reid has helped revive Kansas City during his 10 seasons with them, including making three Super Bowl appearances, five consecutive AFC Championship Games, seven division titles, nine postseason appearances, and a Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl LIV, the team's first in 50 years and Reid's first as head coach.
