The Indianapolis Colts could be bracing to be without starting quarterback Anthony Richardson in Week 17 of the 2024 NFL season. The second-year playmaker missed Thursday's practice, the team's first actual training session of the week ahead of their Sunday matchup against the New York Giants.

Richardson has dealt with several injuries this season and it appears he has picked up more. That said, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports that Richardson is still expected to play but it will depend on how he feels and does on Friday.

Anthony Richardson injury: What happened to Colts star QB?

Indianapolis listed Anthony Richardson as having back and foot injuries. This might be another period in which Richardson sits out games. He missed two games in October due to a hip injury and two more in November, but he was benched then so he could learn behind veteran Joe Flacco.

Flacco would be the one under center on Sunday if Richardson doesn't get healthy before the Giants matchup. Richardson's role has included rushing the ball in short-yardage and goal-line situations, seemingly taking a toll on his body.

Entering this game, he has posted 1,814 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 47.7% of his pass attempts. In addition, he's rushed the ball 86 times for 499 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 5.8 yards per carry.

After a short rookie season where he showed glimpses of a terrific game, Anthony Richardson endured more injuries this season. If he doesn't get healthy on time, the final two weeks of this campaign will follow that line.

Anthony Richardson speaks about his recovery

On Thursday, Anthony Richardson spoke with reporters about his recovery process, admitting that it has been different from what he used to do in college.

"From the start of the season, you're going to feel those hits the next day,” Richardson said. “It's kind of weird because I was telling my family, like in college I didn't really get sore. But NFL, it's a different breed, different game.”

He added that it's a matter of adjustments and keeping going every week.

“It's all part of it,” Richardson added. “You just have to keep adjusting and just keep your body right so you can keep performing."

The Colts (7-8) still have hopes to win the AFC South division after the Texans (9-7) lost on Wednesday, but winning on Sunday is crucial for their aspirations.
