Are there any holes on the Chiefs' roster? Assessing Andy Reid’s plans for 2023 NFL Draft

When we look at the Kansas City Chiefs' roster for the 2023 season, there is a huge chance that the team will not suffer from a Super Bowl hangover like the 2015 Denver Broncos or the 2022 Los Angeles Rams.

Not only do they have Patrick Mahomes under center, but they're also one of the league's youngest teams, and the margin for development is huge. With all draft picks available, few holes and with many young players on the roster, the Chiefs' plan for the 2023 draft will be to build depth.

Chiefs' plans in the 2023 NFL draft: A new wide receiver and even more depth

Kansas City is as complete as it gets and not many teams walked away from a Super Bowl season with so much poise to compete for one another in the very next year.

You can do this with a young roster, and they don't have any defensive starter who's over 30. Most guys are still on rookie contracts – only Justin Reid is in his second NFL deal – and you can expect many of them to take a production leap in 2023 under Steve Spagnuolo's tutelage.

On the offense, Patrick Mahomes can easily offset any wide receiver loss with how easy it is for him to distribute the ball and extend plays out of the script. His ability to throw off-platform offers a new scheme dynamic to Andy Reid and all the Chiefs' receivers.

They also paid Jawaan Taylor but lost Orlando Brown Jr. and Andrew Wylie, so we should see an offensive tackle being taken at some point during the middle rounds of the draft.

But the main focus will be to add even more firepower to the offense, so a wide receiver in the first round seems likely. Mahomes lost Tyreek Hill and saw JuJu Smith-Schuster replace him for a year, but he has also moved to another team, so a new long-term option is likely.

Nevertheless, the Chiefs don't really have any holes on the roster, and they could build for the future while being a contender in the present. It's the perfect situation in Kansas City.
