The Washington Commanders are still up for sale as private bids to buy the franchise fell significantly short of owner Dan Snyder’s price of the $6 billion mark. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who was initially seen as the frontrunner, has been "benched" by Snyder, per the New York Post.

Bezos possesses a net worth of over $100 billion and was reportedly stopped by Snyder from participating in the private auction held by Bank of America. According to The Post, Snyder has beef against Bezos.

Bezos owns The Washington Post, which has printed a series of exposes claiming Snyder allowed sexual harassment to take place within the NFL franchise.

The reports led to the NFL putting heat on Snyder to sell the Washington Commanders. Yet, since he didn’t get what he asked for, Snyder may choose to remain the team's owner. In 1999, Snyder bought the team for a then-record $800 million.

A source close to the sale noted that Snyder will not sell his franchise without a fight.

“He’s an a** and he may not want to give it up."

Despite being locked out, there is still a chance that Bezos could purchase the Commanders from Synder.

How Jeff Bezos can still buy the Commanders

Bezos has been covertly following the sales process of the franchise. The Washington Post recently reported that he hired the investment bank Allen & Co. to explore a bid for the team. However, Bezos has been working with the investment back for months and has long been interested in owning the team.

The other 31 NFL owners may force Snyder to sell to Bezos, so it boosts the value of all teams. Currently, the Commanders are valued at around $5.6 billion, which would be around 20 percent of Bezos' net worth. The question will Bezos seek other investors like hip-hop mogul Jay-Z to get the deal done?

Time will tell if Snyder will seek his team as the league owners meet next month.
