The Atlanta Falcons had an underwhelming 2022 campaign. Arthur Smith's side finished fourth in the NFC South with a 7-10 record.
However, the Falcons have a big offseason ahead of them. With a potential overhaul on the cards, their cap space will be crucial for additions.
The salary cap for the 2023 NFL season is set at $224.8 million, which is a $20 million increase from the previous campaign. According to reports, Atlanta has $39,906,065 in cap space on the eve of NFL free agency.
By offloading Marcus Mariota, the Falcons need to look for a starting quarterback. Desmond Ridder showed signs of promise but the team will need a more experienced figure as its signal caller.

Atlanta also needs to prioritize bringing in more pass-catchers. Calvin Ridley missed the 2022 season with an injury and the team was left short of quality wideouts.
The Falcons were in an underperforming division last season, topped by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who went 8-9 with Tom Brady. They will be eager to clinch the divisional title next season after rebuilding in the offseason.
