Austin Ekeler injury update: Latest on Commanders RB for Fantasy Football Week 5

Austin Ekeler is playing in his first NFL season away from Los Angeles. The former Chargers star joined the Washington Commanders as a free agent ahead of the 2024 season.

Let's take a look at Ekeler's injury status ahead of Week 5 game day.

Austin Ekeler's injury update

According to Commanders Wire, Austin Ekeler returned to practice on Thursday. The veteran running back missed last week's game due to a concussion, and his return to practice should boost the team's offense.

Ekeler sustained the concussion in the Commanders' Week 3 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He left the game in the second half after suffering a concussion and a lacerated ear.

Following the game, Austin Ekeler returned to the franchise's home base in Ashburn, Virginia. He then passed through the concussion protocol and has been cleared by an independent neurologist.

So far this season, Ekeler has split time with Brian Robinson Jr. The former Chargers standout has amassed 13 carries for 83 yards, a touchdown and nine catches for 121 yards in 2024.

Washington Commanders injury report

According to the official Washington Commanders website, running back Brian Robinson Jr. (knee) and wide receiver Noah Brown (groin) did not participate in Thursday's session.

Safety Percy Butler (groin), guard Nick Allegretti (ankle), defensive end Clelin Ferrell (knee), and safety Tyler Owens (shin) were limited participants.

The players listed as full participants for Thursday's session are cornerback Emmanuel Forbes (thumb), safety Quan Martin (shoulder), linebacker Jordan Magee (knee), defensive lineman Efe Obada (tibia, fibula), quarterback Marcus Mariota (pectoral), running back Ekeler (concussion), defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton (foot), and linebacker Dominique Hampton (illness).

Up next for the Commanders is a game against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns aren't having the best of seasons with their franchise quarterback, Deshaun Watson, who has yet to have a game with 200+ passing yards. They're fresh off a Week 4 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Let's see what Dan Quinn's side has in store as they host the Browns on Sunday. Their fans will be hoping that they can continue their impressive start to the season.
