Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield did not play in his team's 25-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football. However, he still managed to make headlines for a bizarre reason.

After P.J. Walker led the Panthers to a crucial win, Mayfield lined up in a queue to celebrate with his teammates. Instead of hugging his teammates, the quarterback headbutted them. Butting helmets is a common practice among teammates in the NFL. Players do it to hype their teammates up. And while Mayfield's teammates were in helmets during the postgame celebration on the field, the quarterback headbutted them while wearing a cap.

It looked painful and probably was, but the euphoria of the win and the adrenaline coursing through him clearly got the better of him. Watch the clip below:

Why is Baker Mayfield not playing for the Panthers? Details on how long QB will be out

Baker Mayfield suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Panthers' Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The quarterback missed his team's next two games. P.J. Walker stepped into the starting quarterback role in Mayfield's absence.

In Week 6, the Panthers suffered a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but beat Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7. They also scored 34 points against the Atlanta Falcons in a narrow loss. This prompted the team to promote P.J. Walker into the starting role, despite Mayfield's return from injury.

Walker had a poor outing against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8, completing only three of his ten pass attempts and tossing two interceptions. He was benched in favor of Mayfield, who played well, throwing two touchdown passes.

Despite Mayfield's positive outing, the team decided to stick with Walker for their Thursday Night Football clash against the Falcons and it paid dividends. Mayfield is currently behind Walker on the depth chart and judging by his attitude postgame, he's taking it in stride.
