Baker Mayfield injury update: Exploring Bucs QB's status for Fantasy Football Week 10

Baker Mayfield came into an unenviable position with the Bucs and it is a measure of his success that fantasy football managers are checking whether Week 10 will see him taking to the field. Replacing Tom Brady is never an easy job but he did so last year and got a new contract out of it.

He has done well this season too, even though their results do not reflect that. Going into Week 10, Baker Mayfield has led the Bucs to a 4-5 record. Despite having more losses than wins, Tampa Bay is comfortably second in the NFC South ahead of the hapless Panthers and Saints. The Falcons are their target, though, who currently lead the division and are two games ahead of them.

The Bucs could easily have been 6-3 themselves but for two tough overtime losses against Atlanta and last week in Kansas City. They lost the toss both times and their opposition scored a touchdown in their opening drive. Based on extra time rules in the regular season, Baker Mayfield never got to see the ball.

However, this is no time to feel sorry for himself. He knows that he will face the 49ers today, who have the same number of victories as them, and a win here will get them right on the tails of the Falcons. The question, though, is whether he will be available to play against San Francisco in Week 10.

Baker Mayfield's Week 10 injury update

Baker Mayfield has been battling a toe injury all week. He did not practice on Wednesday and was a no-show again on Thursday. That immediately had Bucs fans worrying that their offense might be in for a rough ride on Sunday with Mike Evans out for the game and Chris Godwin injured for the season. However, they received a glimmer of hope when the quarterback returned for a limited practice session on Friday.

The good news is that he has no game designation and, therefore, should be in line to take the field as the starter.

How has Baker Mayfield performed this season?

Baker Mayfield has seen continued success in 2024 after leading the Bucs to the playoffs last year in his first season in Tampa Bay. Despite some tough losses, his overall numbers are solid enough for fantasy football managers to consider.

He started brightly against the Commanders with 289 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. That gave him a passer rating of 146.4, which is his highest mark all season. Even though he has not reached those heights since, a marker was laid.

He has a touchdown pass in every single game he has played this year, accumulating 23 in total. He also has nine picks to go with that. Seven of those interceptions came in the last four weeks, but he showed fighting spirit to emerge with more touchdowns in each of those matches. He did not get picked off even once last week against the Chiefs as the Bucs came closer than anyone to ending Kansas City's perfect record in 2024.

His overall passer rating is a healthy 105.6 and his completion percentage of 71.4 is nothing to be sniffed at. Baker Mayfield has recorded 2,389 yards already this year going into Week 10.

The 49ers will not be an easy team to overcome, especially with Christian McCaffrey participating in full practice on Friday and looking closer to featuring for the first time in 2024. Tampa Bay is also missing two of their starting receivers. But they will have their starting quarterback available to play when the two rosters face off against each other.
