The Carolina Panthers released Baker Mayfield on Monday following the quarterback's request as he fell to the third-string position on the Panthers' depth chart. Mayfield started six games for the Panthers out of the seven played and recorded 1,313 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions. He suffered an ankle injury in the Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers and missed his next three games.
It has been a rollercoaster ride for Baker Mayfield this season, after the Browns traded him to the Panthers. The Panthers released him, but the Los Angeles Rams were quick to sign a deal with him the following day.
The LA Rams have had injury issues since the start of the season. Rams starting QB Matthew Stafford is expected to miss the rest of the season as he is suffering a spinal cord contusion. They were left with backup quarterbacks John Wolford and Bryce Perkins.

The veteran quarterback will replace Matthew Stafford for the rest of the season. According to OverTheCap.com, Mayfield was supposed to make $15,358,000 for the season. But he was owed just $4,858,000 from the Panthers this season as the Browns are eating $10.5 million in dead money.
Additionally, since the Rams have acquired Mayfield, they will pay him the rest of the money that amounts to $1,349,444. His contract expires after the 2022 season; after which, he will become a free agent.
Baker Mayfield has an opportunity to make a comeback this season and impress the NFL team managers before entering free agency. On the other hand, the LA Rams now have a veteran quarterback on their team who has already proven himself by winning them their first game after six straight losses.
The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Las Vegas Raiders by 17-16 in their Week 13 game. Baker Mayfield completed 22 out of 35 pass attempts and threw for 230 yards with one passing touchdown.
Baker Mayfield's career
He was selected first overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. His first three seasons with the team were excellent, and it looked as though he would stay in Cleveland for a while.
In his first two seasons, he won six games each, but he ended up having two straight losing seasons. When Mayfield started all 16 games in 2020 and finished the year with an 11-5 record, things changed for him. He completed 62.8 percent of his passes that year while throwing for 3,563 yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

While trying to tackle an interception, Mayfield tore a labrum in his left shoulder in 2021 season. He continued to play, despite having a sore shoulder. until Week 6's contest against the Arizona Cardinals, when it became more serious. Before the season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals, he underwent shoulder surgery.
In 2022, he was traded to the Carolina Panthers. He is currently playing for the Los Angeles Rams.
