Beyonce's mother fuels speculation of Jay-Z taking over as Commanders owner

The Washington Commanders are more than likely about to be sold, and rapper and businessman Jay-Z seems like a prime candidate to purchase them. His wife Beyonce's mother seems to think it would work well, too.

The rapper has a net worth of $1.3 billion, so he alone wouldn't be able to purchase the team that is currently valued at over $5 billion. He'd have to get involved in an ownership group, but his mother-in-law thinks it's a good idea.

Tina Knowles told TMZ Sports:

“I have no doubt that anything that they put their minds to, they can do it well."

Current Commanders owner, Dan Snyder

It was previously reported that the rapper and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, another favorite to take over the team from Dan Snyder, had discussed buying the team. Bezos reportedly also told TMZ:

“Yes, I’ve heard that buzz. I grew up in Houston, Texas, and I played football growing up as a kid… and it is my favorite sport… So we’ll just have to wait and see.”

He is one of the richest people alive with a net worth of nearly $117 billion, so he and Jay-Z could easily afford to own the team.

Snyder recently hired Bank of America to oversee potential transactions of the team. He was also then sued by the Washington, D.C. Attorney General along with the NFL and Roger Goodell.

When will the Commanders be sold?

With potential suitors already swirling, it will probably not be long before Snyder has official offers on his desk. However, getting to the point where the team could officially be sold will take some time.

Once that happens, an official sale, even when one is agreed to, will also take some time. It is very likely that Snyder enters the offseason as the Commanders owner, even though it will not be for long.

The timing will be important, especially if Bezos and Jay-Z want to be hands on owners like Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. However, at this time, the sale of the Commanders is not exactly imminent.
