The NFL is a fickle business and nothing shows that more than Bobby Slowik's firing by the Houston Texans. As the offensive coordinator in a team with a defensive head coach, DeMeco Ryans, he was widely credited with establishing an offense that brought out the best in rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud last year.

However, things went downhill as the passer finished with an inferior record across all categories in his second year. That led to Bobby Slowik's firing. There are many teams, though, who will put down those challenges to a shaky offensive line and the loss of star wide receivers, Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell, toward the latter part of the season.

Therefore, his stock remains relatively high considering what the Texans achieved in 2023, and here are some teams that might want to take him on in a new capacity.

Teams that could benefit from having ex-Texans OC Bobby Slowik

#3 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Offensive Coordinator

Liam Coen brought a confusing saga to an end this week after finally taking over as Jaguars head coach having previously turned down a reported offer from Jacksonville. That opens up a void in Tampa Bay for an offensive coordinator spot. It will be the second straight year that the Buccaneers will have to look for a new play-caller in that position.

Dave Canales left last year after resurrecting Baker Mayfield's career to join the Carolina Panthers as the new head coach and Liam Coen has now done the same by going to Jacksonville. The Bucs had won the last two NFC South titles, carrying on an unbroken chain from when Tom Brady was there. If they are to retain their spot at the top of the ladder, they need another established offensive coordinator.

Bobby Slowik certainly provides that and has the experience of running an offense with a rookie quarterback under a new head coach with the Texans. Given how well he did in 2023, he could be the person to maintain continuity in Tampa Bay as they look to get back into the postseason in 2025.

#2 - Detroit Lions, Offensive Coordinator

Just like Liam Coen, the Lions also lost their offensive coordinator. Ben Johnson has been widely credited with Detroit's offensive chutzpah over the last couple of years that has seen Jared Goff looking like a revitalized quarterback. His departure to the Chicago Bears leaves a huge void to fill.

The Lions also lost their defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to the head coaching vacancy at the Jets, which means they need coaches on both sides of the ball. Dan Campbell needs to select carefully and he will see that Bobby Slowik has shown that he can work with modern concepts and encourage quarterbacks to be comfortable in a passing game.

Unlike the Texans this year, Detroit has a great offensive line to protect Jared Goff. It could also be the perfect opportunity for Bobby Slowik to showcase that he is still one of the best in business just as he did last year in Houston.

#1 - New Orleans Saints, Head Coach

At the end of the 2023 NFL season, Bobby Slowik was being mentioned as a legitimate head coach contender. Even though his stock has fallen, that could be recency bias amongst observers.

New Orleans still has a vacancy open for this position and they should seriously consider Bobby Slowik, As the league moves towards modern offensive techniques, the Saints know that they are not an attractive proposition for many candidates since they have the worst salary cap situation in the league.

However, with Bobby Slowik now free they suddenly have a young offensive coordinator who is looking for a job and has a chip on his shoulder. This might be the perfect time and opportunity to make a match happen.
