Bobby Wagner's Pre-draft
It was revealed in January of 2012 that Wagner had accepted his offer to participate in the Senior Bowl in 2012, which was Utah State's first after Chris Cooley in 2004. He participated in the Senior Bowl, recording 22 total tackles and an interception for Leslie Frazier's North team, which defeated the South 23–13. Along with being awarded the North's Most Outstanding Player, he was named the MVP of the Senior Bowl.
Wagner was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine but had to cancel due to pneumonia. Wagner participated in all of the combine drills at Utah State's Pro Day in March 2012, impressing scouts and team representatives. He helped establish himself as a top linebacker by exhibiting his athleticism and versatility during his workout.
Wagner would have tied Mychal Kendricks of California for first place in the NFL combine with his 40-yard dash and broad jump, and he would have finished first among all linebackers in his vertical jump. At the combine, he had a broad jump that was five inches greater than that of any linebacker and would have placed third overall. Scouts and NFL draft experts predicted Wagner would be selected in the second round at the end of the pre-draft process. By NFLDraftScout.com, he was ranked as the fourth-best outside linebacker in the draft.
