The Washington Commanders' linebacker since March 2024, Bobby Wagner, has been playing in the NFL for 13 seasons, as of September 2024. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks at the 2012 NFL Draft as the #47 pick in the second round and became a Super Bowl champion in the next season. He signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 and then returned to the Seahawks in 2023 after playing for the team for ten years. He was selected for the NFL 2010 All-Decade Team, the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2012, the First Team All-Pro Team six times, and the Second Team All-Pro Team four times between 2014 and 2023.
From 2014 to 2023, Wagner was a nine-time Pro Bowler, with only 2022 missing. 2023 saw him win the Art Rooney Award as well. Moreover, he was an NFL solo tackles co-leader in 2017 and a three-time NFL leader in combined tackles in 2016, 2019, and 2023. He attended Colony High School and, among other things, was recognized for the all-CIF Central Division honors. The two-star prospect at the time attended Utah State University from 2008 to 2011, where he was named to the first team of the WAC three times and won the award for defensive player of the year in 2011.
Bobby Wagner's Team
Bobby Wagner has been playing for the Washington Commanders since March 2024.
Aside from being a tackling machine, Wagner's greatest asset—according to Sports Illustrated—is that Washington gets a defensive general on the field as well as a coach to help mentor teammates throughout the game. In free agency, Washington has gotten off to a great start. With Wagner, it has acquired an All-Pro linebacker who will improve the defense right away, and Bobby's decision to go to Washington was greatly influenced by Dan Quinn, as a member of a new era under owner Josh Harris.
Wagner has played in 187 games over his career, 185 of which he started. He has also amassed 1,725 total tackles, 33.0 sacks, 89 tackles for loss, 13 interceptions, six forced fumbles, and ten fumble recoveries (as of September 2024). He played for the Los Angeles Rams (2022) and the Seattle Seahawks (2023).
Wagner recorded 183 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery in 2023 while starting all 17 games. He also finished first in the NFL in total tackles and was selected to the second team of the All-Pro and Pro Bowl. He led the Rams in tackles in 2022 with 140, and his 11 seasons in a row with 100 or more tackles are second only to London Fletcher's 14-year run since the 2000 season. He had 6.0 sacks, which was a career high.
Wagner played in 150 games (151 starts) between 2012 and 2021. During that time, he recorded 1,338 total tackles, 23.5 sacks, 11 interceptions, 73 quarterback hits, six forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He set a franchise record with over 100 tackles in ten straight seasons, led the Seahawks to victory in Super Bowl XLVIII and was the team's captain six times. Standing at 1,381 all-time in the franchise's tackle total, he is the only player in team history to have 1,000 career tackles.
