Brock Purdy injury update: Should Fantasy managers be concerned about 49ers QB for Week 13 Fantasy Football - Source: Imagn

The 49ers entered the 2024 NFL season as one of the favorites for the Super Bowl after Brock Purdy's exploits last year but going into Week 13, their playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. The quarterback missed the previous game against the Packers with a shoulder injury. It was the first time ever in his nascent career that Brock Purdy had not taken to the field due to health concerns.

Without him, Brandon Allen began the game in the starting quarterback position and the 49ers had a season-low in offensive points scored. Now, they move from the cold in Green Bay to the frigid conditions in Buffalo looking to halt a two-game slide.

They are currently 5-6 in 2024 and bottom of the NFC West. Luckily for San Francisco, none of the other teams have been able to draw away from the others. The division-leading Seahawks are just a game ahead at 6-5. Winning the NFC West looks to be the best way to make the postseason for the team that won the conference last year.

Brock Purdy's Week 13 injury update

Brock Purdy was slated to start in Week 12 against the Packers, only for a change close to the game. With that in mind, 49ers fans might be concerned to see that the quarterback has not been removed from the injury report and his right shoulder injury is still bothering him.

He was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. But the good news for San Francisco supporters is that he was a full participant on Friday. That means he should be in line to start in Week 13 and head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed as much when he said,

“Lots of things can happen between now and then, but right now [Brock Purdy's] playing.”

It is a high-pressure game for the quarterback to return to. While the 49ers have been uneven all year, the Buffalo Bills are 9-2 and fighting for the conference title with the Kansas City Chiefs. Brock Purdy also will have to do without the services of Trent Williams in the offensive line and San Francisco will not have Nick Bosa and Dre Greenlaw suiting up on the other side of that ball. The visitors will need something special to get back to a 0.500 record and keep their playoff hopes alive.

How has Brock Purdy performed this season?

Brock Purdy came in the middle of the season in 2022 and established himself as a starter as he led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game. He followed that up in 2023 with a Super Bowl run. Therefore, expectations were sky-high that he would build on that in 2024. His ability to be efficient while simultaneously making big plays convinced watchers that San Francisco was in the middle of a championship window with a quarterback on a rookie contract.

Brock Purdy's deal allowed the 49ers to stack up on offensive weapons with Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk, just to name a few, meshing well in Kyle Shanahan's offense. The issue, though, has been none of them have been healthy for the entire season and that is reflected in the quarterback's stats.

Purdy has 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. He has had just three games where he has thrown for multiple touchdowns. In a couple of instances, his receivers have come out without a score in the endzone. That shows up in his passer rating of 95.9, which, while not terrible, is the worst of his career. He has 2,613 yards and a completion percentage of 66. also lower than previous seasons.

Given he is just coming back from an injury, the extensive absences on the 49ers side, and the Bills' relative strength, fantasy football managers should be careful before selecting him.
