Cam Akers trade rumors: Rams confirm intention to part ways with RB, looking for a trade partner

Cam Akers' time with the defending Super Bowl champs, the Los Angeles Rams, seems to be ending. The running back has been a staple in the side since he was drafted as the 52nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Akers has had his ups and downs with the perennial Super Bowl contenders. However, it seems that Sean McVay has finally moved on from the burly speedster. It was made pretty clear when McVay had a presser where he declared that the team's preferred path forward would be trading the running back.

Potential trade destinations for Cam Akers

3. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are the last unbeaten side left this season, and their 6-0 record showcases the strides the side has made since the 2021-22 NFL season.

The Philadelphia Eagles operate on a run-first offense, where quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Miles Sanders take the bulk of the rushing duties. However, one thing that the Eagles have been missing is a power back capable of bullying defenses into submission. Considering his fundamentals, Cam Akers can certainly satisfy this need for Philly.

The price: Eagles get Cam Akers and a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, while Rams get an Eagles second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

It is a move that would make sense from a financial, geographical, and personnel standpoint. That's because both the Rams and the Chargers reside in Los Angeles, so Akers won't have to move cities.

From a personnel standpoint, the Chargers have Austin Ekeler as their number one running back. He's a solid option, but he's more adept at catching the ball rather than running it.

Sony Michel is their backup but doesn't bring as much to the table as a fully fit Akers.

The price: Chargers get Cam Akers while the Rams get Sony Michel in a straight-player swap deal.

1. Denver Broncos

Broncos Nation is not eating, and they have not been eating since Russell Wilson started cooking. Hence, the franchise needs a sparkplug from the backfield, as their current options don't exactly make for good reading.

First, Melvin Gordon is not trusted by the franchise to carry the ball, as evidenced by his paltry three carries in their last match against the Chargers. Then there's the unfortunate circumstances of Javonte Williams getting injured.

Stranger things have happened in the NFL, but we don't think Akers would look out of place in a Denver side that needs an alternate option. It is our most rational fit, and Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero would be drooling at the prospect of reuniting with his old running back, Akers.

The price: Broncos get Cam Akers while Rams get Melvin Gordon and a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
