The Panthers were knocked out of the playoffs for the sixth straight season in 2023 after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13. They tied the 2001 team for the most losses in a regular season and finished with the league's poorest record, a dismal 2-15.

During the season, the Panthers dubiously failed to retain a fourth-quarter lead in any game; both of their victories came on game-winning field goals as the clock ran down and the team was behind by one point.
