The Washington Commanders and the Carolina Panthers met in Week 7 of the NFL season, and the story couldn't be more different for these two teams. Although both of them have used a top-2 pick in a quarterback in recent seasons, results have been vastly different.

The Commanders have been more than prepared to withstand bigger challengers. They proved their value against a strong Baltimore Ravens team in Week 6. However, it's also important to dominate weaker teams, and that's exactly what they did against the Panthers.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels left the game early with a rib injury. In his place, Marcus Mariota kept the ball rolling and the score was 27-0 at halftime. Andy Dalton threw two interceptions in the first half alone, and even Bryce Young got some game time.

Panthers vs. Commanders game summary
From start to finish, it was clear who had the better team in the game. Washington has been riding high since they drafted Jayden Daniels, while Carolina have been massively struggling since the start of the 2023 season.
But this game started worse than expected. That's because Daniels had to leave the game early with a rib injury. A good sign happened after halftime when he returned to the sideline and interacted with a few fans, but his day ended after just two passes.
Ad
That wasn't a problem anyway. Marcus Mariota had one of the best games of his career, with 18 completed passes out of 23 attempts for 205 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. After failed stints with the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles, Mariota proved himself with the Commanders.
With a 27-0 score at halftime and with Andy Dalton struggling badly, there was never any way for Carolina to return to this game. The final score of 40-7 shows how much the Commanders dominated the contest and maintained the NFC East lead with a 5-2 record, but still just half a game ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Henrique Bulio
Henrique Bulio is an NFL and College Football journalist at Sportskeeda and the Editor-in-Chief of Pro Football Brasil. He has a total 13 years of experience working in American Football, and playing quarterback at an amateur level in Brazil has given him a unique perspective of the game.
Henrique follows the Philadelphia Eagles closely due to Michael Vick's historic performance on MNF against the Washington Commanders in 2010. His all-time favorite player is Ed Reed; he believes that Reed is the greatest safety to ever play the game. Bill Belichick gets the nod as Henrique's favorite coach for coaching the Patriots to glory over two decades.
If Henrique were to be able to go back in time and watch one game, it would be Super Bowl XLIX, where the Patriots and the Seahawks played a complete, back-and-forth game that concluded with one of the biggest talking points in NFL history.
Technical deep dives are Henrique’s specialty, and he ensures never to use misleading words in his articles, since he himself consumes a lot of information off the web. He has had the privilege of interviewing Cairo Santos, Lamar Jackson, Jim Harbaugh, Sean McDermott, Bruce Arians, Matt LaFleur, among others.
Aside from football, Henrique likes to play poker and Counter-Strike.
