Chase Young is an American football defensive end for the New Orleans Saints as of the 2024 NFL season. The Washington Commanders selected him as the second overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in the middle of the 2023 NFL season. As a rookie, Young burst onto the scene by recording 7.5 sacks, 44 combined tackles, and 4 forced fumbles. He was named the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year for his breakthrough performances, while also being nominated to the Pro Bowl. However, Young's next few seasons would be injury-riddled, before getting traded in the mid-2023 season. Before joining DeMatha Catholic High School, Young also attended St. Columba School and St. Vincent Pallotti High School. After finishing his secondary education, he committed to Ohio State University, where he played for the Buckeyes from 217 to 2019. His standout college career with the Buckeyes earned him various recognitions like 2019 First-team All-Big Ten and 2018 Second-team All-Big Ten. He concluded his collegiate career by amassing more than 30 sacks and 40.5 tackles for loss in 3 years.
