Established in 1920, the Chicago Bears is an American football team competing in the National Football League. Based in Chicago, the Bears play in the NFC North Division of the league.

The Bears were originally established as the Decatur Staleys in 1920. The following year, they moved to Chicago and were renamed the Chicago Staleys in 1921. In 1922, they adopted the name the Chicago Bears, which remains their name today. The team was initially owned by A. E. Staley from 1920 to 1921, followed by co-ownership by George Halas and Edward Sternaman from 1920 to 1931. George Halas became the sole owner from 1931 until his passing in 1983. After Halas's death, his daughter, Virginia Halas McCaskey, inherited ownership of the team.

As of July 2024, nine league championship victories are associated with the Bears. This includes eight NFL championships from before the 1970 AFL–-NFL merger and one Super Bowl (XX) championship. Additionally, the team has secured four conference championships and 19 division championships.

After finishing high school, she attended Drexel University, where she majored in business management. Since 1983, Virginia Halas McCaskey has served as the principal owner and corporate secretary of the Chicago Bears.
