It was an 8-play, 79-yard drive that gave Tennessee the lead and Nick Folk converted the extra point to give the visitors an important 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter began with Folk scoring a 40-yard field goal. Tennessee then pushed to extend its lead and did so when Levis connected with Chigoziem Okwonkwo for a 17-yard touchdown with 3:44 left in the second quarter.
The Bears had no meaningful response for Tennessee, barring a 24-yard field goal by Cairo Santos just before halftime. The Titans led 17-3 midway through the game.
However, the Bears fought back in the third quarter and were handed a lifeline when Daniel Hardy blocked a punt which resulted in a 36-yard touchdown return by Jonathan Owens. Chicago cut the lead to seven points heading into the final quarter.
The Bears inched closer to making a historic comeback when Santos made a 50-yard field goal 13 seconds into the fourth quarter. The kicker then made a 48-yard field goal, his third of the match, with just under 10 minutes remaining to claw Chicago back to 17-16.
The Bears eventually took the lead for the first time in the game when Levis panicked and threw an interception to Tyrique Stevenson who converted a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown. Williams then picked out D'Andre Swift for the 2-point try and Chicago led 24-17 with 7:35 to play.
The Bears held on for the remainder of the game to begin their season with a win.
