Carolina got a host of draft picks in exchange for the trade including a second, a third, and a fourth-round pick in 2023 out of the deal, along with a 2024 fifth-rounder.
San Francisco already had another talent in their team, Deebo Samuels who was primarily a receiver also tasked with running the ball occasionally. As for Carolina, the team was trying to rebuild and as a result of this, they wanted to trade away the star running back.
The 49ers saw the immediate impact after adding Christian’s talent, they went on an 11-game winning streak and many called the trade “Perfect,” for the 49ers. McCaffrey was a major part of the team's success, especially in the 2023-24 season when the 49ers reached the Super Bowl.
