Who is the Bengals QB now?

Last Modified Nov 28, 2023 10:16 GMT

It has been a rough turnaround for the Cincinnati Bengals from the previous year. After riding high to end the year, including a blowout victory over Conference rivals the Buffalo Bills, the team was demolished by the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. However, their start to this season has left a lot to be desired.

Unfortunately, the primary reason for their disappointing campaign has been injuries. While the roster has been relatively healthy, the reason for the entire operation, Joe Burrow, has dealt with injuries seemingly the entire year. To begin the season, a calf strain suffered in training camp had Burrow’s performance well below his usual standards.

While he did eventually recover, barely a month after a wrist injury has now sidelined him for the rest of the year. With the Bengals needing 11 wins to have a fighting chance of getting into the playoffs, their chances look bleak.

Cincinnati Bengals Starting Quarterback

After Joe Borrows suffered an unfortunate season-ending injury, the Cincinnati Bengals have turned to Jake Browning, who had been serving as the backup quarterback to Burrows, to see the team through the remaining games. With Burrow out for the year, the responsibility now falls upon Browning to lead Ja’Marr Chase, T. Higgins, and the rest of the crew to the promised land.

What team is Jake Browning currently on?

Browning has recently been named the starting for the Bengals after Joe Burow’s season-ending wrist injury. This is in his 4th year as an NFL quarterback. While he spent the first two years of his career on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad as an undrafted agent, the Cincinnati Bengals found value in him and picked him up in September of 2021. While he remained on the practice squad for most of the season, he was in line for a backup role. However, he had to compete against Trevor Siemian to win that honor.

After healthy competition throughout the preseason, Browning would get the job as the backup to Burrow, with the decision finalized after the third preseason game. While he did not see any action apart from a snap during the final minutes of an early season encounter, he was the name called up after Burrow suffered a season-ending injury against Division rivals - the Baltimore Ravens. He was solid in his efforts, throwing for 68 yards and even converting a touchdown while going 8 of 14 in passing attempts. Due to the extent of the Burrow injury, Browning will now be the full-time starter for the upcoming season.

Barring a dramatic turnaround, it feels safe to assume that the Bengals season is effectively over. Can Jake Browning do the impossible?
