C.J. Stroud is an American football quarterback for the Houston Texans as of the 2024 NFL season. The Texans selected him with the second overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. His stellar performance as a rookie earned him the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year Honors. He boasts a lengthy list of rookie records, including, the most passing yards in a game (470 yards), the most passing touchdowns in a single game by a rookie (five touchdowns) and more. He also became the youngest starting quarterback to win a playoff game.

Stroud was born to Coleridge and Kimberly Stroud on October 3, 2001, in California. While growing up, he attended Rancho Cucamonga High School, where he initiated his football journey. Initially, he was considered an average three-star recruit, but he later received the third-highest rating as a quarterback in his class. After completing high school, he decided to play college football for Ohio State University.

2020 season

During the 2021 season, Stroud was promoted to the position of the starting quarterback, participating in 12 games. He concluded the season with over 4,000 yards and 44 touchdowns, leading the Buckeyes with a 10-2 record in a regular season. For his outstanding performance, he secured a spot on the first-team All-Big Ten and also earned the title of the Big Ten quarterback of the year. Furthermore, he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week six times and threw five touchdowns against a Big Ten competitor four times in one season, becoming the only quarterback in Ohio State history to achieve this feat.

2022 season

Entering the 2022 season as one of the best players following a successful 2021 season, he continued as a starter for the team and played in all 13 games. He concluded the season with 3,688 passing yards and 41 passing touchdowns. Additionally, he broke the conference record for most six-passing-touchdown games in a career. After the season, he finished in the third position in the Heisman Trophy voting. Stroud decided to enter the 2023 NFL Draft, opting out of his remaining two years of college eligibility.
